Forums - Nintendo - Finally got my own DS - DSi XL

Note: My long list above is just a suggestion of games I liked and I think are worth looking up (along with some others mentioned in prior posts, such as Advance Wars, DQ IV+V, Scribblenauts, Chrono Trigger DS...)

No offense to the guy who created VGChartz' own stickied DS recommendation thread, but this one is probably the best (and best looking) recommendation thread ever created: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=222049

You need to play one of the two Mario & Luigi's.

That series is wonderful!

I loved the Superstar Saga game on GBA, i'll check them out

@ROBOTECHHEAVEN

Thanks man

@okr

Wow, that is an awesome list, I have much to catch up, I see >_<. Thanks for the link for the recommendation thread.

@rmarier83

I'm definetly getting Chrono Trigger. It's one of my favourite games of all time, so, like Dragon Quest V, it's a must have for me. Thanks for the info about Days of Ruin. I enjoyed the story lines in the GBA games.

@Kenryoku_Maxis

I got my DS mainly for Lufia Estpolis, since Lufia 2 is my favourite game of all time . How is Dragon Quest Monster: Joker gameplay? Is it like the GBC DWM games?

CONGRATS!!

Welcome to the best gaming system of all time!

I'd say buy:

Dragon Quest V Remake -- Turned a FF fan into a a DQ fan too

TWEWY

Phoenix Wright Series (this is a fantastic series..not to be missed)

Professor Layton -- another fantastic series

Trauma Centre -- Really Addictive and surprisingly decent story + characters!

Trace memory -- Similar to phoenix wright/professor layton

Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor -- Fantastic game..very addictice & compelling storyline....I HEAVILY disliked Persona 4 but loved this!

Sonic Rush -- Basically a 2D sonic game

Mario Kart DS -- hours & hours of fun can be poured into this

1000 Recipes -- Fantastic thingy that is really helpful cooking wise!

Mario & Luigi : Partners in time & then bowsers inside story -- Great, quirky RPG with a twist

There are so many more!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Considering your masochistic ways, get Trauma Center: Under the Knife.

(Oh, and how's FF3DS? I'm wondering if I should get that)

Kimi wa ne tashika ni ano toki watashi no soba ni ita

Itsudatte itsudatte itsudatte

Sugu yoko de waratteita

Nakushitemo torimodosu kimi wo

I will never leave you

Congratz! You just got the best system since the SNES!

I recommend Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum - better than Silver/Gold - NSMB, Mario and Luigi, Zelda... all the classics. Then try Professor Layton/Brain Age if you like puzzles and Mario Kart if you like racers. After that, it's time (a lot of time lol) for Dragon Quest V and Final Fantasy IV. After that, why not relax with a good dose of GTA Chinatown Wars - since everybody knows that killing innocents is good for stress.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with the DS, just pick a Nintendo game and be happy!

DS XL is amazing!

Desert island scenario; if I had to pick just 3 DS games to be stranded with...

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (Nintendo / Intelligent Systems) Great amount of content, well balanced campaign/COs, online play, map editor... really just the best package all around, even among the AW games imo.  Literally infinite replayability.

Retro Game Challenge (XSEED / Namco / indieszero) So charming it hurts.  And honestly, almost all the "classic" games at top notch.  Really a love letter to those of us who grew up on NES ad SNES.

Mario Kart DS (Nintendo) Best racer on DS, online play, tons of courses, perfected handling and mechanics.  Really, really great game.

...if you're looking at DSiWare, I'd strongly recommend Starship Defense, Trajectile, Art Style: PiCTOBiTS, Art Style: boxlife and Dark Void Zero.  I think they all like $5 each, and they're all insanely deep!

Man, that thread had a ton of stuff.  I even saw some games i nthere I forgot about like Mario and Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story and Game Center CX 2 (Retro Game Challenge sequel we'll never be getting outside of Japan).  I need to get those games...

Actually, a lot of people, at least outside of Japan, were turned off by the fact that Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker didn't play like the older Dragon Quest Monster games.  However, I still really liked it and I thought they had a lot of nice innovations for the series.  But they're making a sequel for Joker, and its looking a lot closer to the style and gameplay of the older games.

Six upcoming games you should look into:
