I dont understand, if this is true how can 360 have 3.4 million in "others" according to vgcharts?

I know 360 has, maybe a million sold in UK. If germ is 253k, lets be kind and give 250k for each of the other bigs, spain, france, and italy. Then lets allow, 300k for the rest of Europe..even all these estimates seem kind of high, I would assume Germany is pretty much the 2nd biggest market in Europe.

That puts 360 at 2.3 million in EU. Not as bad as I thought, but a lot lower than Vgcharts. ioi?

I guess "others" might include, hong kong, korea, etc. But Really I wouldn't expect all those together are more than a few tens of thousand.

Oh, I guess Australia is probably good for a couple hundred k. That still leaves 360 "others" at 2.5, though.

Sharky, I myself am wondering the same thing. According to their own numbers 360 sold 0.39 + 1.92 = 2.31 million units in Europe until the end of 2006. So currently being at 3.47 million they must have sold almost 1 million units somewhere else, which seems quite a lot to me personally.

2.31m in Europe as of the end of 2006. Another 500,000 by now gives 2.81m. Add in Australia, New Zealand, Asian countries and so on and you get to 3.5 million...

On average 360 sold only 160k units per month last year, which includes the holiday season and part of the launch shortages as well, considering in January the console was not readily available yet. So on average, a normal month is probably quite a bit lower, so maybe they sold between 300-400k units in the meantime. Then they still need to sell around 800-900k units somewhere else, with about 150k of those being sold in Australia (according to this source: http://australianit.news.com.au/articles/0,7204,21330259%5E15306%5E%5Enbv%5E15306,00.html) So that still leaves around 650-750k units unaccounted for, which I personally find to be a very big number if it's not backed up by any sales figures.

I do think Sony intended to meet its original shipment targets, not to mention launching earlier than they did. They just screwed over their plans with Bluray.

Yes thats one odd thing .I tried to get a response by Ioi but he sticked to the "we have our sources " and everything keeps the same .I think they initially used the Uk x 2.5 to measure the european sales .That works usually ,but not in this case as the UK and continental sales are so different from each other .You are too generous giving Spain 250K even ,it is around half that right now .And Germany data usually includes Swizterland and Austria as german--speaker countries .There are other countries but having 1 million in UK ,120K in Spain ,253 K in German countries ,say 250K in France and another 200K in Italy it arrives to 1.8 million .There are more countries there as Holland ,Belgium ,Portugal ,Greece ,Sweden ,Norway,Denmark  ,but all of those are way smaller .The union of the Benelux (Holland ,Belgium ,Luxembourg ) and Scandinavia (Finland,Denmark ,Sweden ,Norway ) are two middle sized markets and Portugal and Greece are just plain small .I would give Benelux 150K and Scandinavia 125000 ,the others no more than 30-40K consoles each .Total ,around 2.2 million sold .Add to that Australia 250 K consoles sold and you have 2.45 million .Sure you have the south africa market,United Arab Emirates,India   and some others but that cant fill a nearly 1.5 million gap .I think they just dont want to "adjust " the frontpage in big numbers even in front of this evidency because of the possible backlash ....anyone remember Monty ?

European markets are tricky because the amount of localization needed. There are also so many different cultures, what makes marketing tricky and expensive. Also the small marketing areas (by population) are challenging. EU although, have helped in this way, basicly inside EU, there are no borders when buying or importing stuff. Scandinavia seems to the other place in Europe, where 360 sells, but since the population is about 18M (Sweden, Finland, Norway [Fenno-Scandia infact]), that does not do much on overall sales. Then in the others are Benelux, Denmark, Iceland, Poland, Slovakia, Russia, Estonia, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Turkey (so far population about 300M, but most have low welfare) +the others, i did not name. Middle-east, where Israel have better welfare than others, and rest of asia, where Koreas might be bigger markets than others. South-Africa has highest welfare in Africa and from America, Brazil has also better welfare atleast at the cities. Of course i dont know, that where in those countries they sell the 360.

lol I think i pretty much sure know what countries are Scandinavia, you teach it in the first grade in school. Scandinavia is Sweden and Norway. And Finland is counted as part of Scandinavia (this Scandinavia, with those 3 countries is called Fenno-Scandia). Denmark is not part of Scandinavia, but it is not part of continental Europe either. Its the same thing like UK (or GB, to be more specific), its just Denmark (it also is a part of the Nordic countries [Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland]).

You're talking about the geographical peninsula meaning of scandinavia, which is not the most common usage nowadays.

PS: Anyway, what matters for the purposes of this forum is that Denmark is economically and socially similar to Norway and Sweden (while Finland is different from those countries).

Slaughter begins?  Anyone else think this sounds like the MARCH craze that went on earlier with PS3 fans?  It's April now guys, and the Apocolypse hasn't come yet...

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
