I'm waiting a few weeks after release to make my decision on buying it or not. I'm not falling for the hype like I (and everyone) did with MW2.

After the massive letdown that was MW 2 and the atrocious WaW in the series, I find myself not caring any more. CoD is one of those series that explode on the scene and get drawn out into oblivion and ruined.
There are other wars and certainly other factions, to make games off of, portraying the world as if the US and UK are the only countries in history with a standing army is getting extremely old to me.

Perhaps you missed half of World at Wars campaign where you were fighting as the good guys....who were Russians!!!

Probably did since I never played very far at all since the game was utter garbage (imo). WaW is by far the worst in the series (as I implied in the very post you quoted) and I never mustered the patience to finish, not even close. This has happened with many games before for me.

I stopped playing cod after COD4, my first and last COD game.

What wars would you suggest that they look at from the last 70 years (before that and you have rubbish guns, so the game is not fun)?

The US and UK have been very important in the last century, I don't see what other factions to play as beyond Russia. Maybe the Koreans or South Vietnamese?

There are plenty of conflicts, the main problem is political and sociological implications of depicting them or indeed simply switching sides or altering outcomes in a purely fictional fashion.

The world has a very black and white view of things and this forces developers to follow the same recipes. If I were to give one idea it'd have to be playing as partisans/saboteurs or some form of behind the lines elite troop that weren't either from the UK or US in WWII. The largest battles were mostly on the Eastern front where neither the UK nor the US were involved much at all and there was a collective Europe fighting however they could to stem the red tide of fascism. How about a purely fictional game where Hitler actually succeeded and one fights on a fascist ruled European continent against a seated, established nazi regime in total control (think the Combine in HL series)?

There are other ways of doing things, but like they say; where there's a will there's a way. There is no will, it appears, as long as money rolls in, developers like these have no reason to challenge themselves creativity wise at all. Which is why the CoD series is growing stale imo.

One thing is for sure; if I see one more game that starts with either going ashore or dropping above Normandy, I'll go nuts.

Playing behind enemy lines is not really CoD for me, CoD is about the major conflicts, but the rumours of Black Ops are more to do with behind enemy lines etc...

I am not sure about alternate reality, but with that idea, it is more of a single man's struggle, where as CoD is more of an army's struggle, with some more subtle stuff, like the SAS stuff in MW 1, thrown in there

You made the right decision stopping after CoD4. It looks like CoD4 will have been the peak of quality for the call of duty series.

A new cod is always welcome as long as it is good.

Haters be gone :D

Screw the actual CoD game and give us info on the zombie mode!

Why not get Left 4 Dead for your PC?

I'd say CoD 1 was the peak.

CoD1>CoD4>CoD2>CoD: WaW=CoD: MW2>CoD3

Just my two cents.

(Not including spin-offs such as Finest Hour, Big Red One, and Roads to Victory).

I've just been turned off with gaming on PC lately.  Thought about getting L4D2 it after playing it at my friend's house in his PC, but the enjoyment of playing in front of my PC isnt as fun anymore.  I use to love playing FPS on PC with KB/M but now i just enjoy sitting back on a couch with a big screen simply holding a controller.  I have family and friends that sometimes use my PC and they put viruses and crap on it that messes it up and causes it to randomly reboots.  Installing games on PC should be easy yet sometimes it doesnt work for me oddly.  And i love to play PC games at max setting but I dont always have the money to keep upgrading, with console there's only one setting so im content with it lol.  Im weird =P

the only call of duty game i would buy would be Call of Duty Zombies Edition with just Nazi/Vietnamese/Chinese/Russian Zombie levels and splitscreen.
