HIT in all regions, big time.
I think the problem is a lot of people in this thread are looking at it like a game instead of a piece of exercise equipment. This isn't going to play by the rules of video games.
Here's what Wii Fit is to most people not in the video game core:
It's a piece of exercise equipment that is actually fun and encourages you to continue using it by keeping track of your progress. This has NEVER happened before. Ever.
To give you an idea, my weight setup, which is an adjustable bench and dumb bells cost me something in the neighborhood of $1000. My elliptical cost me something around $500. Both good pieces of work out equipment.
Other people like to go the gym for $20-$100 a month. Some people HATE working out socially (I know a lot of people who do) and would rather do something private, which leads to ...
The problem? To most people exercise is not interactive and fun. Sure, I use them, but I kind of have to force myself at times. Most people can't get past the first 2 weeks of working out because the happiness doesn't kick in until then. A problem of motivation.
What you have with Wii Fit is a fun and interactive way to get in better shape. At ~$350 it's also a very cheap piece of exercise gear. It charts your progress and encourages you to keep at it.
It'll probably be on Oprah and The View and all those other annoying girly shows that pull down millions upon millions of viewers, female viewers who care about their health more than males. It'll probably be on news programs and talks shows and probably help to encourage a new health kick movement, which the US so desperately needs.
Face it, we gamers are a niche. As much people talk about how mainstream gaming is, it's still relatively small. ~3% of the US population has a current gen video game system.
Wii Fit is playing by a whole different set of rules than Mario Galaxy or Halo or [insert PS3 game here]. Those games are our games; they're kings of the niche. In the scope of the world those games are ruling Uganda or Uzbekistan or something.
Ultimately, those games are a baby fart compared to what this thing is going to do.
I hate to sound all John Lucas on this, but I think in this case he's absolutely right. Looking at this like a game is a fundamental mistake, because it isn't one.
Edit:
Also, don't think of it in terms of gamers buying it. It's silly to think that only gamers own a Wii--good god especially the Wii. The easier they are to get, the less % of the Wii population will be our definition of gamers. Even a person who does nothing but work out, it's a good investment if they're into agility and balance exercises.
When you step away from the prototype basement dwelling troglodyte virgin, Moutain Dew Game Fueled Halo frat boy, and teary eyed emo animu nerd demographics you have a very large percentage of people who will find Wii Fit well worth the investment.
Such as:
*neurotic women who freak out over a slight tightness in their jeans
*normal women who just care about their health
*someone who had a recent health scare (my dad falls into this category, and is looking to buy a Wii and Wii fit)
*workout nuts looking to add to their routine
*people who have tried all kinds of routines and have failed because of motivation (HUGE group of people)
*middle aged people who feel the creak of old age in their joints and want to fight it
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. In short, Nintendo is setting out to get as many people to buy a Wii as possible, and this game will be a big selling point.
Wii Fit isn't a game, this wasn't even made for us in mind.

5000 JPY.
Sales figures (for the sales in Japan only) judged after the first full 12 weeks on sale, assuming that both games are released on standard Thursday release schedules. If Monster Hunter Portable 2G on the PSP sells more than Monster Hunter 3 (AKA Tri) on the Wii when comparing the first full 12 weeks of sales (not shipped) figures for both games, then I win the bet. If not, then you win the bet.
The figures from this very site can be used to determine which sells the most over the same time period, although if either party isn't happy with that and wants a second opinion, then official Famitsu figures will be used.
Seen as MH3 doesn't even have a release date lined up yet, you've got plenty of time to get saving your pennies.

i love how a Wii Fit thread turns into a bet about Monster Hunter
The Wii Balance Board will sell more than 30 million in its lifetime. I won't say Wii Fit in case they come out with Wii Fit 2 or some other fitness programs. I can predict that Wii Fitness Games as a genre, using the balance board, will sell over 25 million
Wii Fit itself will be at least a 15mil seller, unless a sequel comes out sooner than later
Bets:Missed by 420k I bet leo-j vg$500 that wii will sell 31 million by 7/31/08. Sorry, I don't think he has enough vg$ to make it with all of u that wish you could. Hit, with room to spare I bet kingofwale a 1-week ban that wii Americas ltd sales>360 Americas ltd sales as of the numbers for week ending 7/05/08 (using vgchartz homepage #s)
Predictions:
Wii will sell 18-20mil by 12/31/07 CHECKWii will sell 45mil+ WW by 12/31/08Wii will surpass PS2 sales WW by 11/17/11 (5yr anniversary)Wii Fit will hit 12mil sales in 2009MKWii+SSBB+Wii Fit+SMG > 50 mil sales by 2010 > gta4+mgs+gt5+ff13+haze+lbpHow quickly does Nintendo pull Wii Fit from the shelves the moment some fatty with a poor heart has a heart attack and dies and then the family sues Nintendo? If they market this as a piece of exercise equipment they have to have all the "warning" stickers and to inform gamers to check with a physician prior to starting a exercise routine with Wii Fit. And honestly, it will not be a hit. Not one bit. It may sell enough to make a profit, but not much more.
I'd rather have actual workout equipment then wii fit to get myself in shape. I could even deal with going to a gym to work out. But to do that while playing a game that really doesn't build muscle growth like free weights can? Or improve cardio like running/jogging/biking can do? It's just a gimmick and will be about as great an innovation as R.O.B. or the Powerglove.

jj, the problem is u are looking at it from an unbiased perspective...u are analyzing the wii fit as YOU see it
doesn't matter that YOU would rather use something else...what matters is what the general public does
stretching/balancing/yoga are VERY popular...not everyone lifts weights to work out
again, wii fit will sell at least 15 million

I also prefer weights, and I don't think Wiifit will cure or stop worldwide obesity issues either, the movement is not intense enough to build up physique one way or the other.
How do I know? In my 6-7 years of working out, I've tried almost every excercise and movement known to man, but 90% are bs and accomplish little to nothing.

Hmmm, jogging in place, that sounds fun. I'm sure it would also be very low impact as well. What's next? Water Aerobics without the water?
How about those that have the Wii in their bedroom, I'm sure that's got to be fun. Or those who just don't have all sorts of room to do something like that in their place.
Fastrabbit, you my friend, are looking at it from a biased opinion. You are viewing Wii fit as you see it in your eyes, which is pro Nintendo. And the key thing is, the key demographic for the Wii is not the general population that gets into exercise, especially yoga, aerobics, etc. The key demographic for any console are gamers. And they are inherently lazy for the most part. They don't like to sweat unless it deals with eating a hot pocket or a cupcake.
If you feel confident about your 15 million sales prediction, lets make it interesting. I'll give you 3 years for Wii Fit to hit that number, but if they don't, you owe me $100. If they do hit 15 million or more within 3 years, I'll buy you a PS3 or 360.
