Told you so. Sony asked for it.

Let the hacking commence.

I'm sick of hearing your childish comments.

Sony removed this for one reason, to try to stop the possible pirating in the future.

I've said it before, the only time I see you post on these forums is when there is news about PS3 and that loser trying to hack it.

Grow up.

If they removed this feature to stop pirating in the future, they are massively stupid.  All this did is provide an impetus for the hackers to go even harder just to spite them.  The guy hacked a PS3, largely to prove that he could do it, but his hack didn't really have much in the way of practical implications at first.  Then Sony removes OtherOS, and it takes one week for custom firmware to pop up.  Sony tried to throw the gauntlet down in a fight they have no chance whatsoever of winning.  All they did is motivate the hacking community and make 100% sure that efforts to hack PS3 continue at a much faster pace.

It's worth noting, btw, that I have a PS3 slim so this literally does not affect me in any way.  Even if I had a fat PS3, I wouldn't care about OtherOS or the fact that it is being removed.  But if you think Sony taking away features is an effective way to stop hacking, you need to reconsider.

His "I told you so" is childish, but the rest isn't.  You are correct, that's why Sony diid it, but, in their short sightedness, all they did was make people develop hacks faster or CFW where there was no intent to make CFW before.

He needs the "Other OS" functionality for his hack development so he is trying to restore it

Its not like he was hacking the system to enable the "Other OS" in the first place

While you are correct, he has stated (wether you believe him or not, that's a different story) that CFW was never the intent that he was hacking for hacking's sake (or whatever his reasons were, I haven't read that much).  From what I could tell from what I read (I haven't read that much) it was a dude futzing with his one machine and blogging about it.  I read no intent of widely distributing the knowledge of how he hacked it (though he probably would) or any intent to make any sort of CFW until after 3.21 was announced.

Honestly I can't believe there are so many people out there that consistently defend Sony just because they never had an interest in OtherOS. It shouldn't be that hard to think about how you would feel if you did use OtherOS and this update came along.

Let's put it another way, how would you guys feel if Sony removed all forms of backwards compatibility (other than downloaded games) because a particular exploit took advantage of how the systems have BC?

God, some of you are so fucking short-sighted sometimes.

If Sony then put out firmware to make it harder for people to use that backward compatibility for hacking / pirating purposes and people start using CFW to avoid having to pay for games / play by the rules, then why shouldn't a company protect its products?

Be angry with the people who want to use Other OS for malicious purposes, they are the ones to blame in the end.

So you wouldn't care that you'd lose backwards compatibility, a feature you paid for, because a company deserves to protect itself from piracy? Cool.

^^And how would you feel if your a company trying to prevent a potential hack for your system that could lead into piracy?

The company I work for DOES deal with that all the time and in the end, if things can get hacked or pirated they will.  You DO NOT get into arms races with hackers as that is a waste of time and money.  You DO NOT remove features from people (or if you really, really have to you at least give them something in return).  You DO make money off of services (maybe better customer support for a price....maybe some PSN subscription where users are able to use a cloud computing scenario for save game data or DLC....I don't know, I'm throwing stuff out there).

In the digital world, it is difficult to make money stricly off of selling software, business models will need to change drastically to deal with this.

If he was hacking for hacking sake,  then why did he distribute it?  He knew what would happen when he did,  he just couldnt say so for fear of legal actions.  And he created this custom firmware just so his previous hack would still work.   He knew what he was doing, he was opening up the floodgates for piracy on the PS3, Please Stop protecting that douchebag.

I not protecting him, sorry if it seemed like that.

My ultimate statement is still "removing other OS did nothing to stop any incoming CFW, if anything it made it happen period or at least made it happen faster. All that removing other OS did was make us lose a feature that some of us paid for."

I don't support hacking or pirating games, and even if piracy was fully possible on PS3 I wouldn't take part in it, but your entire outlook is beyond me.

Sony is a corporation that exists for no other reason than to maximize their profit at your expense.  Geohot is a guy who spent his free time making it possible for you to get free stuff.  I agree that one of these two parties is a douchebag, but it is most assuredly not geohot.

Did you miss the bolded part of comment?   He cant say "Here guys i hacked the PS3 now give me some pirated games",  because Sony would take legal actions against him.

So there´s a chance for who uses this hacked firmware to be banned from PSN and PS3 tag be blocked for online usage, since is possible to this new firmware check for enabled OtherOs feature and check with product tag/psn user be ligitm and aproved...

well... I think PS3 Still secure..
