The company I work for DOES deal with that all the time and in the end, if things can get hacked or pirated they will. You DO NOT get into arms races with hackers as that is a waste of time and money. You DO NOT remove features from people (or if you really, really have to you at least give them something in return). You DO make money off of services (maybe better customer support for a price....maybe some PSN subscription where users are able to use a cloud computing scenario for save game data or DLC....I don't know, I'm throwing stuff out there).
In the digital world, it is difficult to make money stricly off of selling software, business models will need to change drastically to deal with this.
