If good and functional games release without buttons, then why not play them? Natal could be great, make you judgment when it releases.

I both agree and disagree ...

Buttons are a primitive user interface element that will eventually be eliminated by more advanced user interfaces, but it will be (several) generations before we see these advanced user interfaces and it will take a few generations to get accustomed to these interfaces to completely eliminate the need for buttons.

Hmm... I'm mixed. For consoles, it might be interesting to see how they handle no controllers; I'd like to give that a shot. But for consoles, well, I'm already having to hold the system, so no buttons would seem foolish.

I like buttons.

It seems the problem is that most people take existing games designed for controllers and buttons and try simply apply a button-less solution to them. This is not going to work.

Think outside the box people. Buttons are replaced with other types of user input such as subtle movements, gestures, body movement/placement, voice commands, the wink of an eye, the smile on your face, the object you picked up off your coffee table, etc. Games and game writers have to see past the traditional finite and restrictive control systems we've all come to be so accustomed with and create experiences around these new button-less methods.

Keep in mind that most people can't see farther than the nose in front of their face and can't imaging anything more than what they are being shown or fed.

I'm looking forward to new experiences after 30 years of "the same" and my kids deserve an exciting future with new possibilities.

I won't be able to play button mashers if there aren't buttons :/ this worries me. future of gaming needs buttons.

Anywho, Doodle Jump (an iPhone game) doesn't use buttons. And it's awesome. You have my answer!

depends on the genre. I really don't need buttons for golf, tennis, or other sports.

However, I'm not a fan of touchscreens replacing buttons. Those touchscreen d-pads are so annoying.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
