best racing game? not even close. besides there's too many racing subgenres to call any game best racing title. plus what title can you call "the best of racing genre" - there's fun factor, AV factor etc.
plus there's the fact that Gran Turismo games still plague the same thing since GT1 on psx - lack of feel of speed. driving old mercedes at 80km/h feels exactly the same like driving porsche at 160km/h and both of them fell like driving a bicycle. plus there are other big problems with GT games. there's also the fact that while first GT games were the best simulators ON CONSOLES during psx eraand early ps2 years they were never nowhere near as realistic as pc sims.

to me:
best open world racing game - Burnout Paradise/Test Drive Unlimited
most realistic pc racing sim - iRacing.com
most realistic console racing sim - Race Pro
most fun console racing sim/arcade sim - Forza 3/Need for Speed Shift
best arcade racing game - Mario Kart Wii

mine factor is fun but my another question u have not categorize GT as best in any factor why? then y the game is so popular

When I played Gran Turismo game for the first time, it felt like nothing else I've ever played in the racing genre. I hate arcade racers like Burnout, Burnout Paradise is the only game I've ever resold and to me it's one of the worst games ever made. The only arcade racer I like is Wipeout series, which has something that appeals to me gameplay wise, even though when I first saw it, I thougt it was crap.

There is a pretty darn good reason why Gran Turismo is the best known, best selling and highest rated racing series out there. Industry professionals (from car industry) have acclaimed GT as the only racing game worth their attention, it's been praised from drivers, through engineers to car enthusiastics and manufacturers all around the world. And anyone who knows how GT game is beeing created, will notice that the love for cars and attention to detail is second to none. Kazunoru Yamauchi is a humble genius and perfectionist and his child, the GT series is the best racing series ever. Deal with it.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

On consoles, if you take a look at the overall panorama of realistic simulators (not the entire racing genre), then Gran Turismo probably is the best, overall, series. Lately though, Forza 3 has taken my spot as my favourite console simulator game, probably things will change once GT5 releases.

Although, the best simulator series overall probably is a toss up between Geoff's Crammond Grand Prix (especially Gran Prix 2 and Legends) and the SimBin racers (especially GTR-2). Can't get any more real than that.

jedians, hype, PR and the fact that often GT games were first good racing titles to grace playstation consoles. plus there's the part of huge number of cars and accesible arcade-simulation gameplay. in categories i chose GT is not the best game, not even close. it just like with Koei games - they can makehuge changes in the series and still "gaming journalists" will call those games crap without even playing them and give 'em 4-5/10(same thing is with many wii games).

GTs complete lack of speed just make this series feel like work and not a fun game.
PD have to do a lot of work to make GT series as realistic as Race Pro and as fun as Forza series/NFS Shift.
it's like Fuel - great concept, average execution and many flaws(except GT was backed up by sony's PR machine and hype). Fuel was really good game(especially for fans of open world racing games) but had many flaws and problems.

aragod, please spare us the PR talk cause people into racing sims know it's not true AT ALL.

gt5 will be by far the best racer

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

You're going to want to cut that down to Sim racer. Since the whole genre is pretty damn wide. And do you really want to keep it in the same category as F-Zero?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Sim racers put me to sleep. But then I grew up on stuff from Sega, Namco and Nintendo. Sega Rally, Ridge Racer and F-Zero are what get my blood pumping.

Among my friends who are really *really* into sims though, Simbin (GTR/Race series) is king. They kinda look down on GT and Forza, too "casual console" for them.

BTW it might be a good place to ask. Where exactly do Gran Turismo and Forza games fit in this comparison of racing simulators? I never was able to find this kind of info on GT and Forza games. Maybe some sim racing enthusiast in here could answer this question?

mai, nowhere. both games are arcade sims(though Forza have some of those). the only true racing sim game on current gen consoles is Race Pro.

GT, even though not the best looking if you compare it to some of the PC stuff, is a gorgeous game on consoles, I mean, it's a really attractive game when on consoles, people dig that shit, people love good looking cars.

Mario Kart singleplayer sucks. Online is great and local multiplayer is a blast.

Gran Turismo singleplayer is great, online is great, local multiplayer is great.

As far as the racing part goes, GT is quite a bit better.

Ehh, I enjoyed getting those three stars.

Not very challenging though, but at least more challenging then anything you'll find online in Mario kart Wii. I don't know why, but I always race against complete noobs who have 2 stars behind their name, but it's beyond me how they ever got it driving like that.

Not that I'm a pro in this game, far from it, but so many people who can't drive online Oo
