Forums - Sales - XBox 360 shipped vs PS3 sales to retail graph

@ kowenicki

An order isn't the same as a sale.

Any sources? I doubt that, else the fiscal reports don't add up.

I would like to see some sources with regard to what sales and shipped actually means. I won't take internet claims as "the truth".

Famitsu, NPD, GfK, etc only estimate local installed bases. That's something else. Retailers are Sony's customers. Sony's installed figures do differ a little from time to time as they explained, for example GfK does not count the HDTV/PS3 bundle deal in Australia in their figures.

These estimates can live hand in hand with Sony's global hardware sales. We lack professional estimate sources for many regions as also VGChartz staff pointed out many times in the past.

For me 33.5 (Sony) and 38.7 (MS) means the same thing... shipped.

@ kowenicki

My graph is more detailed and focusses on PS3 vs 360.

I see nothing wrong with that.

I think MikeB should replace PS3 with "Roxorz" and 360 with "Suxorz" on the graph, then I'd find it interesting. Otherwise, yes we get it, the PS3 is selling great.

@ kowenicki

when they have no trouble with the Wii and 360?

VGChartz data is regularly updated when new figures are released. For example according to VC the Wii sold much better in North America last month than the NPD reported. So this data gets corrected, more problematic are areas we don't reports from (so only Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft themselves really know how many units they sold or shipped to retail).

re-enactment:

MikeB:
"Hey look at the stats I've collected and aligned Quarters by Quarters!  See which system would have performed better if both of them had been released at the same time."

Kowenicki: "Pff! Humph! Tsss! "place shallow semantics here" !!! :butthurt: :butthurt:"

Wow...you spent time on that.

so how do you ecxplain the inability to track the ps3 properly from all agencies when they have no trouble with the Wii and 360?

We have had numerous adjustment from all sides, what the hell are you talking about?

Although I do wish Sony would stop changing the way they report shipment so much.
