It only does humility?

I think Sony did not want the PS3 busting down the doors with them loosing nearly $300 a unit. When PS3 launched cheap Blu-ray players were $1200- 1500. If they would have clearly marketed PS3 as a Blu-ray device, they could have probably doubled their sales the first year. Then on the game side of things, they basically sent the software out to us on the net tell the end of 08. Basically every PS3 title in the first 2 years of its life were sent to die. They were the direct opposite of the all out marketing blitz for Halo 3 and the Gears franchise.

It is just to hard form me to believe that a company that marketed 2 consoles so well could air such unconstructive ads, and be serious about selling consoles.

They said the old adds could be percieved as arrogant, not that they were. I think the old adds were more... annoying rather than arrogant, what I mean by that is if people don't understand what something means there usually either intrigued or annoyed, most probably the latter.

The new ones are just as arrogant if not more than before but that's good because with this 'console war' mentality consumers exhibit, the new adds do come across well to people owning the other system, and are a definitely showcase superiority to those who own neither.

I doubt this means that Sony are going to stop believing there winning the console war, and stuff like that though.

The old ads didn't make sense....I dunno if they were arrogant They just DID NOT MAKE ANY SENSE!

Was Sony aragant? Oh hell yea. $600 console? Get  a second job to buy one? Gimmy a break but...

That had nothing to do with anything. The PS3 didn't sell at launch because of 2 reasons. No killer app and a $600 price tag, period. I don't care what kind of advertising you have, that console was not going to sell at that price no matter what.

Then they drop the price to the magical $300 and the great games start rolling out and BAM, success. At the same time they have been humbled a bit, i guess, and now people want to attribute the success to them being humbled? Not buying it at all.

Although its just and exaggeration, Sony has to do this so as to get people's attention

Sony was without any doubt arrogant, but the crying doll wasn't, that darn thing was just freaking creepy!
"It only does everything" isn't too arrogant, it's more a mix of bombastic confidence and humour, quite Duke Nukem style.

"With our campaign now, we kind of knocked off all those obstacles. The arrogance I think has gone away,"
