It doesn't matter if Wii doesn't have "domination" like the PS2 had, which by the way was mainly because PS2 had a year head start and virtually ALL the thrid party support. The important factor is that Wii is outpacing the PS2, so logic will tell you it should outsell the PS2. I don't know why everyone seems to think Wii will just miraculously have this unprecedented drop in sales, like everyone in the world will collectively just decide to stop buying them all at once. It just doesn't work that way. I guess it's just wishful thinking going against logic. |
Like I've repeatedly pointed out, DS didn't have GBA style domination either, and that hasn't kept it from cruising by GBA's milestones or mean it won't have a better wind down. Hell, if we include iPhone, it's marketshare doesn't even equal PS2's either. PS2 didn't manage the marketshare NES did either. Trying to tie marketshare alone to longevity is a faulty argument with basically zero historical precedent.
The "third party support" argument is laughably inaccurate too. You can count on one hand the number of 3rd party AAA games PS2 got from 2007 on, new 3rd party games are most definitely not what kept PS2 going in it's twilight years...
The question shouldn't be "when will wii outsell ps2", it should be "will wii stay out long enough to outsell ps2"
