Forums - Nintendo - Will Wii 2 have 3D?

Nintendo has announced the Nintendo 3DS with 3D and all the other features but will Wii 2 have 3D?  Some TVs have already started to have 3D ready things and by the time Wii 2 comes out 3D will be popular.

No, I don't think so. That would most likely require a 3D television. Nintendo would want thier hardware to be accessible to the maximum amount of people, and most people won't have a 3D TV. Also, if it is 3D but doesn't need glasses, I'm not sure how that would work. The 3DS has a special screen just for that purpose it is made to support 3D. However, everyone has different televisions, so the "Wii 2" would need to have something that allowed 3D to display on televisions that don't support 3D, and I don't think that is possible yet.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

i don'r think so nor do i really want it to be, because i HIGHLY doubt there will be 3D TVs without glasses by then, the 3DS will use a technology that is only applicable on small-ish screens (rumored for now)

besides, i don't want to go out and buy a brand new TV when i only (relatively) recently bought an HDTV, i spent 12 years with the same TV until a couple of years ago, want it to last at least half as long as the first one :/

3D in handhelds: disruptive

3D in consoles: not disruptive.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Maybe, maybe not. It certainly won't be the driving force, but it might be supported if the tech allows it to be done in an affordable manner.

Will 3D really be popular by the time the next generation is out, though? I doubt it. HD took many years to become popular: it wasn't there when the Wii was launched, and it really only started to get popular when SDTVs were no longer being produced in significant numbers. It just didn't add enough to be of value to most people, just like 3D, and so the "evolution" was imposed artificially. The same will likely happen for 3D, and that will take a long time.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Agreed!

Who knows. I don't think so, for the same reason the current Wii doesn't support HD. We'll have to wait and see though, you never know with Nintendo..

No, 3D glasses are a treat that's why people put up with them in the movies. Yes I said put up with them. People would rather have 3D without the glasses, but a 2 hour movie isn't that bad when watching on the BIG screen. In the home 3D tech won't take off anywhere as near. This isn't to say that some penetration won't happen. If all compnaies make only 3D TV's then yes sooner or later 3D TV will be standard, but is that because of consumer interest? no it's because it's just part of the default technology of the TV. This is not the same thing as wanted technology.

Nintendo and any smart company aren't going to waste there time pursuing 3D game development until the tech is a standard. Sony is just trying to popularize the UMD again.

Yes, or atleast the capability.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

3D TVs won't be supported the same way HD wasn't supported with the Wii. The first 3D TV launched this year. By the time the Wii 2 comes out around 2012, 3D TVs won't be mainstream, or even in more than 1% of houses.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.
