It means entering someone's lane immediately in front of them rather than the appropriate distance ahead. Basically you should be able to see their headlights in your rear view mirror before shifting lanes. Thank god you're alright Stof, and yes I've been in an accident although not when I was driving. When I was 5 I was in the car with my parents when we hit some black ice. The car was totalled but thankfully there were no permanent injuries. :edit: Wait, did you mean hit by a car while outside a car? If so, no.

That doesn't really bother me. It happens all the time but I like just apply the brakes for a little and my zen state is untouched. Seriously people just ought to remain calm about things.

Yeah it happened to me 3 years ago, didn't feel as bad as I thought it would, just left a really bad bruise. The only thing is this happened outside the school building by the dinner lady!

3 times.. twice when I was riding my bike from school. A car took the turn short.. and I flew over the hood landed in the grass.. a few inches to the left my face would eat tarmac... and the other time a truck went through red and just bounced his back into me slamming me a few metres away into a parked car... luckly I don't wear any safety padding or a helmet so I got cool scars all over the place.. I even got an award at my school for being the most time hit by car accident.. and the last time I got hit with my gf on vacation head on collision with another car.. wasn't our fault did spend the better of my vacation in a hospital.. no pretty scars.. just some broken ribs..

I was traveling straight down a road with a 45MPH speed limit at the speed limit, and the other guy turned in front of me causing me to have to slam on my breaks so I wouldn't hit him (he made a right hand turn from a side road into my lane of travel). Hence I was cut off. I got mad (which was my mistake) cause he could have easily waited a few extra seconds and pull out behind me.

There is also what postofficebuddy said, but that isn't quite the same, as you typically dont have to slam your breaks to prevent an accident.

(as a note, you never really "slam" on your breaks while riding a motorcycle as that would cause your wheels to lock up, but those are minor details )

I'm kinda surprised I haven't been hit by a car, considering all the biking I do. That's probably because I treat all automobiles as if they're trying to kill me.
