It means entering someone's lane immediately in front of them rather than the appropriate distance ahead. Basically you should be able to see their headlights in your rear view mirror before shifting lanes. Thank god you're alright Stof, and yes I've been in an accident although not when I was driving. When I was 5 I was in the car with my parents when we hit some black ice.
