I thought Crystal Bearers was a decent game. But i'm not going to lie. The combat just sucked.

It does need a little work, it just wasn't fleshed out quite as much as they were going for its kinda obvious they wanted a simple but deep system and it might have been development issues that caused that to not work out like they wanted.  It's a very cool idea that could actually work out amazingly well given the right tender love and care.

So basically what you're saying is....a game can be shitty, however, it should be reviewed by people who "understand" the game. Meaning, shitty games can get marked up because the reviewer likes those types of games?

I'm sorry, but if your trying to make a talking point just so bad games can get put in a better light, I think it's rubbish. Like I said, if game reviews were divided by which reviewer is "informed" about said game...well then Imagine Babiez would get a 9/10. Cause all the reviewer would have to say is "this is definitely a child's game, where they learn how to raise kids so they can be a nanny. If that's what you want to do, then this is the game for you. 9.0/10"....come on now. Is that what you want out of the current review system? Shovelware being put on the same stage as this generation's best gems, simply because those games aren't "core"?

It is pretty funny watching you not only avoid my point, but go to amazing lengths not to make one of your own. You have created a non-existant scenario and then thrown it haphazardly into a false dichotomy. You are also doing a good job of attempting to distort what I said to fit your agenda as well.

Is it your contention that all games in a given genre are equal? Is Starcraft the same quality as Dawn of War? Half-life 2 no better than The Conduit? These ideas are patently absurd. This is the exact argument you are making. "Imagine: Babiez is in a genre people might like so it must get a high score!" Unfortunately for you that scenario is not based on anything remotely resembly reality. In fact, it is entirely divorced from not only for video game reviews, but from any form of legitimate reviews across all media.

There is a fundamental difference in quality in games. This is undeniable. With in each genre there are games that are the pinacle (Half-life 2) and those that are just plain terrible (Big Mother Truckers). The reviews of said games should reflect that quality, and not the genre itself. Wii Sports is undeniably one of the most popular games of this generation. It serves a segment of the population extremely well. To dismiss a game based on genre, as is done in a ridiculous number of games, undermines the very concept of a review. You are no longer attempting to inform all potential customers, and instead are servicing a sub-section of the entire potential market. For reviews to be close to relevant in an overall sense they absolutely cannot cater to the tastes of only a few. Until then metaranking scores, and even individual reviews are entirely worthless as an indicator of quality.

They should implement motion plus in the next game and give more control of where you move things. And change the game flow so it's about precision with the telekenesis rather than throwing things at enemies as fast as you can before you get killed/run out of time.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I applaud this thread.

Some of my most favorite games are "low rated" titles and some of my most hated are the ones the industry and many of it's gamers consider the cream of the crop.

I can't wait until May 11th and people tell me how 3DDGH flopped due to having a 65-75 Metascore because I will enjoy it as though it were a 95+ rated title.

Higher score =/= more fun.
