decent sales, decent reviews, still, i don't get the hype

.......wow...

?

consider the number of articles in this website about Heavy Rain

then compare that number to the facts HV is a million seller with a metacritic score of 87

then you'll understand my post

VGChartz and/or Internet =/= Real World.

You can't use the hype from here and try to translate it into a reason as to why the game didn't do excellent, the game far surpassed Quantic Dreams expectations, that alone makes the sales way above "decent".

Relativley to Quantic Dreams precedent games Heavy Rain did sell way more than decent indeed.

Also we need to see that Quantic Dream is a dev team anywhere between 11-50 employees in size and I would guess it is probably around the 30-35 mark. The game was in development for anywhere between 4-5 years so if we go high end and say they make 100k/year we are talking around 25M total for a 50 man project over a 5 year span, which I am pretty sure it isn't.

I am pretty sure the game already broke even and/or is beginning to show overall profit.

Correct me my maths are wrong.

Dev size I found here: http://www.linkedin.com/companies/quantic-dream

Dev time was figured seeing as how it was first shown at E3 2006, so I tacked on a year to a year and a half possible for any work that may have been done prior to E3, although this work was probably done without the full staff.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

The amount of people working on Heavy Rain was considerably more, and also varied. In this interview, David Cage says the maximum number was over 200 people at once (he gives an accurate number, but I can't remember it).

Those 200+ include the 400+ people in the casting call or no?

I just can't see this game costing upwards of 40-50M with the expectations they had in regards to sales, unless in France they get paid like crap.

Edit - Those 400+ or so (can't remember the number), can't remember if it was just interviews.

Anyone have a link that could give me a rough estimate on the full development costs for this game?

Congrats to Heavy Rain and QD for being willing to take risks and invest in quality gaming!

omg go away if you think so instead of saying it.

OT: That's great for QD. I'd like to see more of them in the future and this is a good indication of things to come.

This is a casual gamer oriented game, and a brilliant one, deserves at least 2M sales IMO.

Brilliant story,brilliant experience.

Oh,you must have a true HD tv,or you are just wasting your PS3.

I totally agree.

The game reminds me to Choose your own adventure, collection of books that I used to love as a child.
