Do you mean a doctoral dissertation? As in you write this paper about cross platform video games and you get a PHD? If so, what is your major and where can I sign up?

Steam is going to be coming to Macs as well as Valve's Source games (and a game like TF2 is playable in servers by both Windows and Mac users) if that counts.

Yeah, that's good info thanks, didn't know about that!

The PC/Mac/Windows/Linux cross platform is a wierd one, cos they're kind of all the same but different at the same time, lol.

UK Degree in Games Design and programming. Done a load of 3D modelling, programmed/made some Xbox games, had a module where we all played MMOs and Analysed them (mostly just sat in lecture playing WOW or Unreal Tournament 3), did some modules on games marketting and business and I've chosen to write a 24,000 word report on cross-platform games for my final year, alongside an Xbox game and marketting strategy for some god aweful game the first years thought up.

Fun degree, but gotta be serious about it or I'd get nowehre with it, it's not all just sitting playing and talking about games. Quite funny seeing lecture attendence drop miles near release of big games, MW2 release saw 60% drop in turnout, same with FFXIII. :p

Lol, well M$ scrapped cross-platform games because windows live becamse free on PC since PC players didn't want to pay to play against each other when it's always been free.

The next ones coming out are FFXIV Online and DC Universe Online both for PC and PS3 cross-platform play. Plus The Agency is still due for release, which is another PS3 MMO, though they dropped cross-platform play for that.

So I'm sorry Huya but I think you're gonna be hearing a lot about PS3 MMOs and the advantage of free online in the not so distant future. It's also the reason theres no BBC I Player on the UK xbox 360 as the BBC offered M$ the service but M$ only wanted to give it to gold subscribers. BBC turned round and told them to stuff it because the British pay a license fee for BBC programs and M$ shouldn't be able to charge people to recieve their services.

Edit: As a further point it's interesting how FFXI is the only one to have done full cross platform so far, where many fail because of company policies and online fees etc. I guess Square Enix has a lot of weight to throw about.

Your forgetting the part that I play games to play games not to get persuaded in buying products that I don't want~~

Think I got my wires crossed there sorry dude. I thought you were just starting a random 360 vs PS3 rant and you were saying "I wouldn't want that" in referral to FFXIV being released and trash talk on forums. Rather than you talking about not wanting to play 360 vs PS3 due to them them trash talking ingame constantly. Wasn't trying to persuade you in anything just saying theres a few more cross-plat games coming out than just FFXIV. :)

I can see where you're coming from, but I think it'd make it more interesting overall, especially having 360 clans vs PS3 clans and the rivalry that would brew up from it. It's so much more fun having some friendly rivalry during games where you're kicking each others butts. :p

Yeah I get annoyed by trash talkers ingame. I was playing this halo match the other day and a player in my team told me ''Microsoft is an American company only americans are allowed to use xbox''. Though the concept of cross platform battles seem cool, people are waaay too immature and insecure this count for both sides.

It was more than that, BBC legally can't offer the iPlayer on a subscription only service.

That's Microsoft's problem with Gold, holding up stuff like Netflix or Facebook or whatever hostage.  I'm not sure how, but only Japanese MMOs seem to be getting around it too (FFXI, PSU, MHFO... and soon FFXIV).

They get around it by not using Xbox Live at all.  FFXI forces you to install something called PlayOnline, which it uses to connect to the other platforms.  You may notice it's one of the very few 360 games not to have Achievements, and that is the reason.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
