Yes and No. Yes because they are all addon to the existing controller to offer a different gameplay experience. If they were competing, WM+ is setting the lower bar at 15 million units. No because we are looking at the next ommentun changers for the 3 consoles and WM+ was already released. As for your other point that M+ or even Balance Board sold millions but lack of further support, I'm not sure what's the problem. The bottom line is they were able to move millions of peripheral/add on based on the original software offering (Wii Fit, WSR). I think it would be a "problem" that Sony/MS would love to have for Move/Natal. (on a side note, there are actually quite a few games with Balance Board support although very few are Balance Board based. However, it is understandable no games would be Balance Board based. Why limit the game to a select group of Wii owners instead of all Wii owners?) |
saicho, for nintendo it's ok the lack of support for their add-on, but for MS and Sony Move and Natal are tools to increase the lifespan of their expensive machines. And to be succefull they need support from 3rd party, even if they had a monster app to sells gazillions copies of their add-ons but don't get enouch support for it to increase the lifespan it wouldn't be that succefull. And the problem with M+ don't getting support is because the main idea behind it was upgrading wiimote, and if it don't get other support than WSR why would i bother to buy extra units other than the bundled one, why few games have it as option? Ironically the Zapper that is the add-on that can be useful in many games is the one that sold the less, and WM+ and BB that had pretty few compatible games sold the most.
M+ > Balance board > VS > Move + Natal
Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)
Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!
has MS even announced the price yet???no
so it's really hard to guess natal at this point.
move i think will sell like eye toy on PS2.
Natal
but if the vS gets bundled, it'll have the same fate as wii sports
I'll be very surprised if VS isn't by far the cheapest of them i.e. package-able with games a normal retail or only slightly above normal retail costs and Nintendo has a very good track record of marrying new software concepts with hardware. Unless it flat out sucks it will sell the best.
Balance Board has already a great headstart and is still selling (even supply constrained) so it will be hard for the others to compete (even combined).
However, Vitality Sensor has the most potential to win as it is likely to be cheap and thus more easily bundled with games needing it (as others have pointed) which might allow it to sell enough to put the trio VS+Move+Natal above the balance board.
This is sales expectations so it has no bearing on my perceived quality of each peripheral.
Personally I would like Nintendo to do a EEG Sensor and bundle it with a Wii Relax+ as I have little difficulties calming my mind but once the adrenaline kicks in it can take a minute or two to calm my body so I would probably kick a lot more ass in an EEG game.
