whilst I find it hard to understand why sentences are so short, id hardly call time in prison a "slap on the wrist"

another point that ill make; no justice system is perfect, would you rather wrongfully imprison somoene or wronfully kill them?

edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_the_Democratic_Republic_of_the_Congo - this is the nation who you say deal with this "FAR better"?

I know of people who have been in prison for whatever reason... And they had Internet, PS3's, Wii's... It's hardly a hard life is it?

And of course, no justice system is perfect. Far from it. And i would only support capital punishment if the offender was proven by forensics or whatever.

Sure, they don't exactly prove it in Congo... But IMO this country would be a lot better off if we had the death penalty re-introduced for certain criminals.

And how can you conclusively prove rape without video evidence or a witness?

the death penalty is illegal under UK and EU law

I think it should always be illegal, I dont agree with the idea of killing people unless there are extenuating circumstances. (self defence, war, that kind of thing)

please provide evidence of your claim that "they had internet, PS3's, Wii's"

if so, they shouldnt be getting luxuries like that, I agree, but again, first prove your claim.

Opinions vary.

PS3/Xbox/Internet - Here and Here
Wii - Here

I'm sure there is a way. Do i know that said way, no. I'm no forensic expert.

I think it should be more than that...there are few crimes more serious...

what kind of wierd circumstances?

Ok I just looked up sentences for rape. The maximum sentence is life imprisonment. The average sentence is 4 years in jail.

4 years?

for rape?

how on earth do they explain that?

good behaviour its called, sadly its true. aparantly a rapist can behave well and thus be released into society earlier

Rape isn't just forcing a stranger into a dark alleyway and having sex with her (or him) and doing that will get you more than 4 years. I am sure there are many reasons why someone would only get 4 years for rape, though I couldn't tell you because I know very little about law.

No... that is all rape is more or less.

Rape under British Law is defined as

"A person (A) commits an offence if -
a) he/she intentionally penetrates the vagina, anus or mouth of another person (B),
b) B does not consent to the penetration, and
c) A does not reasonably believe that B consents."

That's it.

why the arguing and whats wrong with the daily mail,it's just as warped as the guardian or some lefty media

he is from the dr congo so he should go back and live there, simple enough isn't it,i couldn't give a monkeys if he might get hurt, doesn't sound like he cares too much about other humans as he raped a woman,

up the english revolution,we need to go back to making up our own laws,i would go on but i'd probably get reported and banned,so i'll stop

the Daily Mail is a tabloid, it has a reputation for being extemely right wing and reactionary, a good example of this would be the article they printed about Stephen Gately.

the Guardian is a broadsheet, it has a reputation for being left wing, but unlike the Mail doesnt print homophobic drivel or populist reactionary nonsense, I know which one I would rather read.

@ bolded - well, based on that logic, all humans should go back to africa, thats where we all originally came from.

@ italics - good to know, you think rape is bad, but that murder is okay? again, two wrongs dont make a right.

english revolution? eh up lad, whats all this then?

we do make our own laws.

oh, and as for "why the arguing" its a little something we call debate, its the cornerstone of something called Democracy, perhaps youve heard of it?

@ sci-fi

who's talking about murder?

the guardian is left wing,no reputation and what's wrong with being right wing,i know which i'd rather read

not this all humans come from africa subject again, totally meaningless to me

he is allowed to stay because eu law, marrying a german citizen,as far as i know

i want england as a separate nation, thats my politics

"why the arguing",over whether this foreign rapist should be staying in this country or not,is what i was talking about, nothing to do with democracy, which i have heard of by the way

we have very opposing views politically it would seem, let the debate continue

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

Why do we keep criminals when there are immigrants who are refused into the country?

Human rights to stay in this country my arse. He didn't take much thought about the human rights of the people he raped then dumped.

The daily mail is in the top band of papers in the UK. People shouldn't question its legitmacy.

Daily Mail. Can't be relied upon enough to make a judgment on the case.
