This country is beyond a joke.

No, it isn't. Would you rather live in the Democratic Republic of Congo? Do you realise how lucky you are to be a UK citizen? I don't think you do.

well, I think that if they think he might be killed or something in the Congo, they can keep him here

HOWEVER

I think he should be spending 80 years in jail, not 8, rape is a vile crime, 8 years for it is insulting.

I dont really see what this has to do with Political Correctness though?

So you think that British people should pay Taxes to keep a roof over this mans head and give him meals daily for 80 years?? Send him back!!  why on gods earth would you want him here?...

I would imagine they havent deported him because he may be killed in his home country.

while I think rape should carry a long sentence, I dont agree with giving someone the death penalty, either by killing them here or sending them overseas to certain death.

So your telling me your care about the well being of a rapist? which baring in mind is a "vile crime" Send him home for god sake. That attitude is why this country is going down hill, its getting way too soft and criminals have way to many rights.

if you call spending a long time in prison "well being"...

on rape, I agree, we are too soft, the sentences should be longer imo

I think this country would be alot further down hill (more like at the bottom in a muddy ditch) if we started killing these people or sending them to die.

Yes the sentence should be longer, and No we dont have the right to take someones life, but ask yourself this, when he gets sent home why is he going to die? he has probably raped before and the families of the victims Probably want revenge, im not going to lie I certainly wouldnt lose any sleep if the families got Their revenge.

you say you dont think we should take his life, but you think its okay for others to do so?

it seems the most likely reason that the government wouldnt deport him, though without being given the facts of the matter, this is mere conjecture on both our parts.

God forbid any of us know or have had a family member raped, but if the person who did it got 8 years which even in your eyes isnt justice, I dont think id let him get away so easy.

er...whilst I think its a lenient sentence, I wouldnt take the law into my own hands...two wrongs dont make a right...

I think it should be more than that...there are few crimes more serious...

what kind of wierd circumstances?

Ok I just looked up sentences for rape. The maximum sentence is life imprisonment. The average sentence is 4 years in jail.

4 years?

for rape?

how on earth do they explain that?

good behaviour its called, sadly its true. aparantly a rapist can behave well and thus be released into society earlier

Rape isn't just forcing a stranger into a dark alleyway and having sex with her (or him) and doing that will get you more than 4 years. I am sure there are many reasons why someone would only get 4 years for rape, though I couldn't tell you because I know very little about law.

I'm sure the Democratic Republic of Congo wouldn't allow a foreign rapist to walk the streets after a shitty punishment.

Agreed. Which is why the Jury can't know the victim or suspect personally.

I doubt they would have caught him in the first place.

okay then, put your money where your mouth is;

if you really think that makes it a better country, please, move there.

@ tombi123 - I still think that seems way too short for rape, but I understand your points.
