that list is terrible

After their AC review it just proves that IGN has lost it

 I completely agree

@ A.L.E.X.

They are not done the list yet or do not want to tell us yet.

They update 10 rankings at a time.

That's a poor list. Only two of those is a "must play game" and Halo & SSBM are quite mediocre at times.

Final Fantasy VII is the best game ever, and yes I've played it. Many times.

Reasons why FFVII isn't the best game ever:

1) Lego character models

2) Boring "press X, win" combat system

3) Incomprehensible story marred by translation issues

4) Annoying main character (and supporting characters, while I'm at it - the only one I actually liked was Cid.)

5) Graphics aged incredibly poorly

6) No actual "role-playing" involved

7) Not challenging at all; a trained monkey could beat it.

8) ...

In fact, FFVII wouldn't even make my top 100 best games of all time list. Nor my top 200, really. The only good part of the game was the ground-breaking pre-rendering work, especially in the first 8 or so hours (in Midgar).

Ah, thanks for clearing all that up for me. I'll change my favorite game of all time to Resident Evil 4 now, but only if that's ok with you of course. If that's not than maybe Super Smash Brothers Melee?

SSX 3 had better be on this list. I think anybody here whose played it would agree. Probably the best sports game I've ever played... Although it's far from the greatest game ever, does anybody else know what I'm talking about?

Fun Idea, my score so far:

98 QUAKE 2
96 Wave Race 64
95 Bionic commando
94 Nights (played on a friends saturn.  Made me wish I had one)
86 Perfect Dark (Only played multiplayer).
81 Space invaders (played in one of those awesome pizza hut arcades).
79 Secret of mana (I love this game)
78 The Legend of Zelda (one of my all time favorites.  My favorite Zelda game by a significant margin)
77 Star Fox (Where, oh where, have all the rail shooters and shmups gone?)
76 FFVII (My favorite FF).
75 Golden Eye
67 MM2 (Mega Man has hair!).

I can't wait for Wii Okami.  Then my shame will be lifted!

A la Snesboy here is my list of must plays

Super Metroid
Super Smash Bros Melee
Soul Calibur (I or II)
Super Mario 64
Final Fantasy (VI, VII, or X)
Street Fighter II (an anthology version preferably) or Street Fighter III: Third strike
Halo (any)
Starcraft
Zelda: ALttP
Kingdom Hearts

I think Super Metroid's incredible system continually expanding power-up based exploration (and the ability to skip these many of these power-ups through advanced techniques) greatly eclipses its toned down replication by the Prime series so much that it deserves to be a must play instead of them.

The FF series integrates great story into good gameplay.  Take your pick.

Smash Bros Melee can be played just as awesomely as a high-paced competitive fighting game as it can as a chaotic party game as it can as competitive team game as it can as ... however the heck you want to play it.

The others are pretty standard picks and the other fighting games are obviously because I'm a fighting game fan.

Street Fighter III:Third Strike is a masterpiece of the 2-D fighting Genre, Street Fighter II made the 2-D fighting game genre awesome.

@NintendoTopegi: if you're going to rip Snesboy's post so badly at least explain which of the two games you do think are must play's.
Obviously everyone is going to have their opinions and they'll vary widely.  You think SMG's difficult sections are a weakness, whereas I find them to be the best part of the game and the rest too easy.
