And of course the now that Sony throws it's weight against something there is a massive move to back them up. Just like the days when Sony fans were spouting that it does support Linux when it was used against other systems in the early days of launch.

baaaaahh

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Wow, whats with the hostility?  The fact is, this is a bullshit, overreactionary move from Sony to a minor exploit that can't even be used for anything yet.  The fact that there aren't many people who use Linux on their PS3 is moot. Those that do use it went through a lot of trouble to put it on there, and obviously will want to keep it.  Just because it doesn't matter to you doesn't mean it doesn't matter to everybody.

I hope this turns into a shitshow for Sony, because thats the only way a company leanrs anything.  Better yet, I'm really hoping it is just an April fools joke.  Seriously, who releases a ridiculous piece of firmware on April 1st anyways?

If you have a PS3 and have performed a firmware update, you already agreed that Sony has the right to remove features at any time. The Linux OS is opening the door to piracy in the platform, and it only makes sense that they remove it.

Total nonsense, you didn't even read the first post. Furthermore, the update will take away Linux from regular users and the hackers won't update. And to apply a hack as soon as one is found, Linux won't be needed at all.

Dude, if you had minimal tech knowledge you would understand that it's gonna be pretty hard for a hacker working on 3.2 to break 3.3 or higher firmware without having access to it through Linux...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I still have yet to see how Sony broke the law. They covered their bases with the EULA and the ToS. Its not their fault that people were ignorant and did not read them. I dont see any of these lawsuits doing anything or anyone getting anything out of it.

I still dont know why you refuse to see that what they wrote in the EULA or ToS is all they need to justiy what they did.

EULA don't mean squat. If they break the law then they are invalid. There are numerous cases where the EULA hasn't held up in a court of law.

Tease.

EULA and TOS does not automatically override consumer rights.
I find it useless to argue further anyways. Sony could take away the play blu-ray movies away and they'll still don't care...

Guys, if the EULA and ToS break trade laws, then it doesn't matter whether or not the user agreed to them, they cannot be acted upon. I don't know if it breaks trade law in the EU or not, but if it does then Sony's ass may be in hot water.

It's happened to pretty much every software company to remove a feature in a service pack that was previously available, you're gonna sue all of them ?

Did you sue EA when they canned the Madden 09 servers ?

I don't think so....

You aren't forced to update, they are doing nothing wrong.

Anyway I heard it's a smokescreen and firmware really contains Cross Game Chat.

May have made that up.
