Perfect Dark on XBLA looks fantastic. It sure as hell looks better than any shooter on the PS2.

I'm in love with the game. The multiplayer is unbalanced as hell, but it's just so much fun, and the amount of features and customizations are unparalleled.

Younglings, especially teenagers, are very stubborn when they want to be. They will make up their minds about certain things and will dismiss others without a second glance (you can see these types of attitudes in the younger members of any video games forum). Often they will simply favour whatever they happen to pick up first, or whatever they are given first because that's the easiest thing to do. To them, playing an older game would be like being forced to eat their veggies, or letting them watch Avatar and then try to get them to follow it up with a classic piece of cinema like Casablanca. They don't want to eat their veggies when they're in the middle of a sugar rush. The sugar rush in this instance being games like Halo.

In time, they will appreciate other things a little more, for now, let them have their sugar rush....

It's a mixture of most the the stuff people have already mentioned:

- Games have evolved. If someone is growing up with the graphics, production values, physics, AI animation, features, controls etc. at a certain level, then they're going to have a tough time understanding the appeal of the games that came before it that lack those now standard features.
- Teenagers generally don't understand and have a full appreciation of history. They don't fully appreciate the innovations of the past have lead to what they're now playing.
- Halo is popular. Kids want to be popular and so will want to only play popular games like Halo and Call of Duty. Give them a brilliant but niche FPS that surpasses the mainstream games and they'll likely hate it.

Solution? Take away his X-box and give him your N64/PS1/SNES/Mega Drive. If that's all he can play then he'll suddenly gain a much greater appreciation ;)

It's all about the graphics. PD became popular because of its gameplay and other things, yes, but also because of its graphics. It may look crap now, but when it came out it looked absolutely stunning, for its time. Had it looked like a SNES 3D game (Starfox, anyone?), people would've shunned it, too. It's not like the majority of gamers nowadays is that different from back then, most were and are still graphic whores. You can't make 'em like the game, and they most likely never will. But us enlightened elders can still be happy we know of its greatness.

I agree. The single player campaign in perfect dark is more fun than halo 3's campaign. Though that might be because of nostalgia, since it was my first FPS. Other than that i do not approve of your trolling on Halo 3.

Perfect Dark didn't age well. Neither did Golden Eye. RIP.

and in 10 years time there will be a 23 year old being annoyed that his younger cousin cant understand the true brilliance of COD4

Because things evolve, and age. It's hard as hell for me to go back and play goldeneye, even though that was THE SHIT when I was 15. It's not just graphics, but control, level design, AI, UI, everything about design. It has improved drastically over the years and unless you were there and understand the games within the context of their time, you are going to inevitably compare old games to new games, and the old are primitive in a variety of ways.

Please elaborate on how it is "primitive". Also, SNESBOY, they were playing the original N64 version, not the XBLA port.

In which difficulty were they playing? If they thought it was too easy, they should play on Perfect or Dark difficulty.

Because they grew up playing games with great graphics.

I doubt you can make them understand, in time they might appreciate the game but they could care less because there are better games out there that they are interested in.

great graphics?in 5 years halo 3 will look like a **rd and suddenly we played games without great graphics(cuz we played a ps3 which then will be crappy visually in comparison?)? its too subjective to even dare to mention it like that. PD did have great visuals for its time, and halo 3 has alright  visuals for this time. But if every time we move on to a next gen automatically everything that came before isnt great, is stupid. Not to mention gameplay wise plenty of modern games are worse.
