I love that. Its good that they buffed the PHoenix up a bit. I think it will get a nerf or two still, but it is at least worth building now. I'd guess either attack or defense will take a hit. They could nerf speed and render them useless again though. Just for the fun of it.

The problem with the new pheonix is that it doesn't even have to use the attack command to attack. Which means they require zero micro to use to devastate any air units. You can just hit Shift move and click all over the screen, go get a soda and when you come back the skies will be clear. Any air unit that they have equal to greater range than will be completely incapable of fighting them at all. At the very least they need to have you need to use the attack command so that it will require some kind of micro like the corsairs of old. I really don't see this staying in the final build.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

huh? I'm guessing you're a zerg player, because their range isn't any better than a void, viking, BC or Carrier. And mutas were basically protoss destroyers, so they needed the phoenix to function better vs mutas

That's not true.

The new phoenixes requires micro. Not as skill-based as the animation canceling from Brood War, but you still need to contantly maintain a perfect distance from the mutalisks. If you shift move, what if the Zerg places his mutalisks where you ordered your phoenixes to go? It's impossible to predict where his mutas will be, so shift move is not an option.

Blizzard added micro^^

It would be an epic trolling if they did nerf speed xD

I just got a beta key by reserving it at umm. A game store....

I've played around with it. Protoss are way different. I miss my Arbiters.

Well we have the Mothership instead, it's like a useless Arb...

To be honest I prefer Protoss from Broodwar:

Corsairs >> Phoenix
Goons >> Stalkers
Arbiter >> Mothership
Scout >> Void Ray (air)
HT > HT 2
Archon > Arhcon 2
DT > DT 2 (this whole tech tree line feels so redundant now)

Reaver/Colossus swap is pretty even.

Scout << Void Ray (ground)
Dropship < Warp Prism

Sentries are fantastic.

Blizzard's reaction at every stage has been to nerf, nerf and nerf again (for all the races). It's making the Beta increasingly dull.  Right now I much prefer the original game.

The mothership pisses me off. It's so damn annoying. It moves so slowly.

Carriers are a lot better though.

The Dark Shrine is completely useless. I hate how they gave mind control to the damn zerg.

I don't like how 2 DT will make an archon and not a dark archon.

Agreed.

Arbiter > Mothership

Mind Control > Neural Paracite

Corsair > Phoenix

And Dark shrine needs to be buffed. And psionic storm. There is virtually no reason at all to not open with robo bay, you're forced to do it each game.

Not true, Citadel for blink and especially charge can really be a game winner in the midgame, i almost always build it first

Against Terran you need a fast robo to get observers since they are your only protection against cloaked banshees and you need fast immortals or you WILL get raped by their marauders if the terran knows how to play.

Against Zerg you need robo to get scouting since you won't have map control and you need fast immortals to deal with mass roach.getting an observer early to scout for spire is also extremely important.

Not until after you have at least one robotics facility is it viable to get a citadel since even with the upgrades, your units will be too weak to deal with the enemy without tech support. (And protoss are supposed to be the strongest but most expensive -_-)

In PvP robo bay is also the by far best choice for teching since the immortals rapes stalkers and the observer lets you scout your enemy fairly early on. You can go stargate => Voidray, but that's only if you all-in.

Templar tech would be viably if psionic storm didn't suck and if you could get DTs faster. Starport needs units that are not raped by the basic enemy air units (Viking > Phoenix? but aren't protoss supposed to.... nevermind)

charge lots rapes basically any ground units on an open field, but its true cloacked banshees can rape you. Now that ive thought about it, ill only get citadel in pvp and pvz, b/c lots would need to destroy the terran wall.

If the Phoenix could counter Vikings then Terran would be massively fucked against Protoss. Collossus counters bio, Immortals counter mech and Marauders big time. Air is the only way to keep competitive in a long game against Protoss. Take away that advantage and all three tech trees would have ridiculous issues trying to win any long term battle.
