I'm calling BS on all of those who are screaming "illegal" and "criminal" without any evidence to back it up.

Hacking is illegal. whats so BS about that?

and before you ask why is it illegal? , look at the third party software sales of the Wii / DS and PSP. do you think these guys work for free? and work just for teh lulz? no they work for living, and because of some random nerd with no life they're losing their jobs, now isn't that a crime? or is it okay for someone to steal your money from you and you call "BS he didn't steal anything"

The BS part is exactly what you just said. Hacking is not illegal. It's the same thing as dismounting a radio you bought. The radio is yours, you can do whatever you want with it.

You are confusing piracy with hacking. Which is like a newbie mistake as far as these debates go.

Please... hacking is not illegal by itself. Pirating might be, or even circumventing DRM schemes, though only in some countries. Other people have already explained, why should we go back to square one again and again?

Read the dozens of posts, please. Hacking isn't illegal. This has been thoroughly covered. He isn't stealing anything. Also if you really want to get into an argument about the economics of piracy I suggest you read some studies rather than just making assumptions. (hint, piracy increases sales - weird but apparently true).

this is where its not true , the Network isn't his own and he isn't using it for himself only, thus its illegal.

see if you bought a Radio from someone , you can do whatever you want with it, change its name change it's looks change anything, but you can't change the trademark and sell it under your own name thats called stealing.

and i am done with this stupid argument. again i leave with people trying to common sense to their own favor, which results in nonsense.

I see you are getting a bit confused. Why are you now talking about selling stuff, when none of the stuff this guy did has anything to do with selling anything?

on the one hand i could update my system and be able to log into psn. on the other hand i could be a criminal.

F you geohot.

What sort of nonsense is this?  A Criminal for using custom firmware?  Get real.  If he made custom firmware to let you sign into PSN AND keep costum OS feature...what exactly is the crime?

Problem is, that feature was already there

He wasn't hacking the system to enable the other "OS" feature

@Red

i don't do studies because i living with it , i know Hardware sales go up because of piracy but Software Sales go down to hell, and without Software sales there won't be any profit to the ones that matter, the developers.

You're giving an example which has exactly nothing to do with what we're talking about. That doesn't help.

If Geohot was doing illegal stuff he would have been jailed or fined long ago... As visible as this guy is, no chance that companies like Apple or Sony would let him do his stuff for so long.
