I think the only ones who have issue with what Miyamoto-san said are OBVIOUS PS3/360 fanboys with an ax to grind against one of gaming's greatest game designers. You know who you are.

I don't think you have to be a fanboy to think that A) he is hypocritical about violence when his games are all violent even if it is cartoony violence instead of bloody violence
and B) that he would be a greater designer if he didn't keep revamping the same games over and over from the N64 on. Mario 64 is Mario Sunshine is Mario Galaxy, Orcania of Time is very much like Twilight Princess, Wii Smash Bros same as the N64 smash Bros, New Super Mario Bros more or less the same as Super Mario World etc. Hell Mario Kart even shares a ton of levels with the old versions in additional to being virtually identical.
Kind of funny having a designer who has stagnated since the 80s and early 90s try to give lessons on game design to devs some of which are actually trying new and interesting things.
Before you start on about the Wii Fit or Wii controller, go look up the power glove and/or track and field with the run pad from the original NES, yes, even those were 80s ideas that were updated.

shiggy needs to stfu.
violent games such as gears, god of war, etc. > mario, pikmin, animal crossing
Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^
He's not saying the game are bad. He's saying the focus on them to the exclusion of other types of games is bad.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

completely agree. The man can talk all he want, because he's a legend. Though he has no crediblity in the area of violent games cause he hasn't created them for shit. He should know that if there is an audience for shovelware shit (wii fit, wii music, wii sports), there is also an audience for violent games. The man came out as an elitist mr. know it all.

You're missing the point by a mile.

And you just came out as Mr. I only read the title.
Seriously, either some people are extremely tired and missed the point of what Miyamoto said by a thousand miles, or they just didn't read the OP.

You are not SERIOUSLY comparing Mario Galaxy to Mario 64, are you? Seriously?
The only thing these two games share are the fact that you have to collect stars and the fact that you have to go into different rooms (or paintings) to get to levels. That's it. Beyond that these are two completely different gaming experiences.
Furthermore, Miyamoto has not had serious, direct input on any Zelda game since Ocarina of Time. And that was well over 10 years ago.
Even furthermore, you are AGAIN, one of these fanboys that has an axe to grind. Not once did he "give lessons on game design", not once was he "hypocritical about violence". He simply said that ALL games need to receive equal time and resources to push the industry forward, and not just one type of game. How hard is this to understand? Unless....you have an axe to grind.
I'm also noticing that the people who have issues with what Mr. Miyamoto said also have pretty low VG$ numbers. I'm not going to say that they're trolling...YET. But there is a concept with spades and spades....

Don't tell me it isn't true. Anyone I know over 30 thinks games are for children only. And calls me childish for still playing them at 22. |
Weird...I know lotsa guys and gals (I work with) that are closer to 35-40 (or even older...gee THAT's REALLY OLD!!!) and most of 'em play video games of one type or other...some play wii games, others ps3...I actually thought the world had changed and most people DIDN'T think video games were just for kids and dweebs anymore...guess I was wrong!!!
