Why would it cause massive headaches?

AVATAR was what? 3 hours, and nobody had a headache watching that

Not true, there are cases (not too many mind you) that some get severe headaches after watching 3D for long...I have seen it first hand

3-D won't take of(atleast at home) until they can make you watch it without the glasses.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

On one hand, the jump to 3D is definitely bigger than the jump to HD which is a point in favor.

On the other hand:

- many people have switched TVs in the last few years as HDTVs got cheaper. People don't switch TVs every 2, 3 or even 4 years to make 3D quickly adoptable.

- 3D at home isn't as convenient as 3D in the cinema since the glasses are expensive and you need several.

- 3DTVs are HDTVs with 3D, while the upgrade to a HDTV was also good due to switching to a flat, big and prettier TV than the old CRTs.

yeah, i think the advantages of 2D to 3D is much more pronounced then the move from SD to HD. plus there is a lot of hype around it, more then i remember for HD anyways.

...personally i'm waiting for sony to release their 3D upgrade for the ps3. i generally don't like being too early of an early adapter but if sony bring a lot of content i may motivate myself to buy a new tv. just kind of suck cause i just bought an HD tv 2 years ago. :/

Do it without glasses, headaches, and a huge price tag, and yes it will take off.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Yesterday I went to best buy(yes the just dance experience came from there) and I decided to go and look around the tv section since I suspected they had 3d tv's in. I go to the guy, and tell him "excuse me are you guys selling 3d tvs" and he tells me "No we aren't, we sell out immediately after getting stock, and have alot of them pre ordered". I think thats just BS to get people hyped they really get low stock b/c of the low demand Then I noticed a huge group of people huddled around an area near the HD tv's, and noticed they were showing MONSTERS VS ALIENS in 3D. The tv was a SAMSUNG 3D TV, priced at $2900(yikes). A load of people were just amazed by it, how old were they? sadly there was only 1 pair of glasses, but I did get to see it, and my was it a great experience. Not as good as the theatres though, but the guy tells me the PANASONIC 3D TVs that they are also selling offers a better 3d experience.

Anyhow, Im sure its going to take off rather quickly.. and the glasses are no hassle at all. I heard a rumor that SONY's 3D TVS are going to be less than 2k? Is that true? Because I REALLY can't find anything on the web, I do know if they are the only one's brining glasses.

i doubt they well sell good i personally dont care bout 3d or motion controls to tell you the truth i was fine with SD tvs or crt guess im just old school but a crt would wipe the floor out a lcd both in responsetime/refreshrate cost and how long the tv will live

anyways sonys tv are coming out later than the other brands this june and theyll cost more

if you want the best tv go with either samsung or LG samsung for best picture LG for most features sony have dropped the ball with tvs stripping many features that they had yrs ago and now are also neglecting certain tv sizes

aslo dlp is even cheaper u can get a 50+inch tv that does 3d and 1080p for less than 2k

                                                                      Play Me

3D vision 100€
3D monitor 200€

lot cheaper than 3000$ ...

I don't see this taking off AT ALL. People are just getting comfortable with HD and many have purchased televisions already. Most won't see the benefit of spending a load of additional money for a feature that won't be used by most things they watch when they've been hesitant to upgrade to HDTVs in the first place.

Won't 3D gaming cause massive headaches if you play too long :x?

As a test subject, I can say not at all.

I did have vision troubles the first week (about 30h of 3D gaming between midnight and 5AM is not great for your eyes when you start work at 9AM), but since then no trouble at all. It may also be due to the depth setting. 3D vision has a knob you can roll and as you get used to it you can increase the depth... I probably had a setting that was too high. Now nothing and I even increased the depth.

(oh and never had headaches from this... if anything, I get less migranes since I play in 3D =)

i dunno,  everything i've seen show that 3D movies are doing great at the box office which shows there is an audience for the material.

...and, if you compare the prices a 3D enabled tv doesn't cost all that much really.  oh sure, there is a premium compared to a normal HDTV but not a whole lot more.  certainly now where near comparible to what HDTVs cost when they first hit the market.  couple that with the part where HDTV adoption rate is still around 40% according the the article i just googled it's not so unreasonable that people might go straight from SD to 3D.
