I do in my speed runs(I don't have the patience to catch every Pokemon). I usually name them after my friends, and my Pikachu/Raichu(which I get in every game) is always named after the girl that I

Most times I don't. When I do though, I nickname them when they're fully evolved or when I'm bored.
Some Pokémon I can remember nicknaming..
Labyrinth the Tangela(HG)
BldDiamond the Shiny Gyarados (D)
ChromeDome the Cranidos (D)
Death Star the Starmie (D)
Snatch the Shiny Bidoof (Pt)
Pixel Art can be fun.

Few times. Just when they looks like one of my pets.

I ALWAYS give nicknames to my Pokemon. Just gives them more personality I feel.

I use to do that in the old FF games I would name the girl I liked most after my real life GF

I rarely do, and when I do I usually don't actually train those pokemon.
My friend traded me a Bellsprout named Ballsprout, though.
When I was yoounger I never did. But now my main Pokemon have nicknames.

Only my starter.
i Know someone who takes what the poke is based on (pikachu = mouse)
and adds a y
so pikachu would be mousey.
