Total newbie checking in.  I plan on putting more hours into this game.  I am pretty clueless with the game right now but I have a feeling I will understand this game better.  I plan on actually logging online for first time this weekend.  I was going to last weekend but I got caught up owning people in CoD:WaW (Wii).  Anyways, this game is very interesting and I am glad I purchased it.  I am guessing it is going to take least 20 more hours before I start understanding the game better.

Although I have had the game for some time, I have not progressed very far, so I am also a newbie. I have only been online 4 times, but I am starting to understand how things work. If you would like to Monster Hunt together for some of the 1 star online quests, please let me know. I need someone around my level to adventure with.

@EntilZha, sure I plan on playing it offline and online most of the day tomorrow (Saturday) after I get back from my parents house.  I'll let you know my fc once I actually log online and get it.  I am sure I don't know as much as you but I am sure you can show me a few things.  I have wii speak also but heard it was kind of hard to hear people for some reason?  Anyways, I'll send you message tomorrow with my FC.

Good games Seth.

I have found the WiiSpeak problem at my end. It would not work even with the WiiSpeak Channel. I needed to unplug it and plug it back in, and now it is working again.

Look forward to trying again on Sunday.

I finally got my HR up to 22 (woo) and beat pretty much everything you can at that stage with a few other people with HR's in their mid 20's. Ok so we killed Barrioth pretty easily, the Rathian/Rathalos thing wasn't that difficult either and Rathalos by himself was pretty much stunned or downed for the entire quest.

Then Diablos comes along and ARRRRRRRRGH DIABLOS ARRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHH.

ARRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHH

Ok lol. I think that's pretty self explanatory. Anyway how are you supposed to beat him? He tripled killed 3 people at once with that out of the sand tackle and all my hits bounce unless I hit him in the shin.

If he killed 3 people at once, they need to either upgrade their armor or keep their health up.

A few things: he is most weak to Ice, try using a weapon with a shield(especially a lance works well because of the distance as well as the change between Impact and Cutting damage), use Sonic Bombs when he isn't in rage mode, and use traps when you can. Also this is a rule for all monsters and to everyone; do NOT get hit. If you get hit then not only will you have to worry about healing, but you will be wasting time that could be spent getting attacks in on the monster and weakening them. It is better to be less aggressive when you can't attack and focus on evading or guarding, than getting hit and a monster becomes open, but you can't hurt them because you have to heal. I hope that helps.

@sc94597, thanks for defensive to offense tip.  I am more aggressive than I should be while playing the game (barely started).  I blame it on thinking I can somehow roll out / dodge attacks than block/then attack.  I obviously need to rethink my strategy because I have been getting hit too often at beginning levels (I attack then roll and that is probably a not very good strategy (sure I try to block but some reason I have aggressive style of play due to other games I have played in past)).  I think I am going to try sword and shield combination cause I don't like the slowness of great sword, etc...  I need to find a weapon that I am more comfortable with using.  I am also thinking about switching mainly to bowgun also since I played hunter in WoW (and similar class in PSO).   Anyways, thanks for the tip and obviously I should read this thread front to back.  I was given the monster hunter wiki site yet I really not sure how to utilize it yet (considering I am just trying to grasp basic gameplay first then worry about combination / items next).

Alright sounds good.  You probably didn't want to hear me yesterday in beginning (was little confused but not too frustrated).  I am pretty sure my setup works but I'll have to double check today.  I'll will send you a message letting you know when I am going to log on today.

It's a fine strategy, the only issue is that certain combos commit you for longer periods of time than are healthy. When in doubt, just get in one hit (in severe doubt, just don't even try). Many of them don't present real opportunities to whale on them.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Just got a hour or so in with EntilZha.  We would have completed more than just 1 quest except we didn't realize it was capture quest till too late and killed it.  I am starting to get the hang of the game more and probably after another 4-6 hours I should have all the basics down.  Still using sword and shield combo but after watching EntilZha and his switchaxe I am starting to want to pick one of those up soon (and give that weapon a try).  Got Wiispeak to work and was fine (was a little static at first but it seemed to get a little more clear as time went on).  Not sure why it isn't as clear as when I used to play Animal Crossing.  I never had static issues with that game.  Anyways, I think I got used to how it sounded and was able to understand everything better the longer I played.
