Forums - Sony - I've just had my 3rd PS3 die on me

I remember this guy who hade three PS3 break down on him aswell. Turned out he dusted off his PS3 like two times a week with a vacuum cleaner.... he didn't get that static electricity and a gaming console on standby don't mix....

if it have november or december 2006 date, send it back to sony. util you get one thats says in march 2007 or later

One overlooked aspect when it comes to these things are voltage regulators. Don't get any cheap one you find out there, make sure it's a good one. I'm fairly certain that's what caused my PS3 to spoil.

that's a bitch,sorry to hear the bad luck :(

I have a 60GB PS3 got it on launch day in the uk :) it's three years old now and still going, been on everyday for between 4-12 hours.Sometimes longer haa

I'm out of work atm (lack of luck is everywhere :O),when I get back into work,I'm buying a slim (or two...maybe three).

Playstation gaming for 18 years this 2012

You're doing it wrong.
I've owned 4 PS3s (currently 2) NONE of which have had any problems.

Get a slim. Quite a few of the original Fats have turned out to be dogs.

Its not a problem with the slims to date !

Now you know why sales of PS2 are so high.

sony cant fix em right also most of the time they give you refurb one they are the ones responsible for the problem trying to cut costs and applying cheap ass thermal paste http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-General/YLOD-is-caused-by-low-grade-Thermal-Paste/td-p/44795200;jsessionid=52270ED6700AA7226634BBCA5F3C6C53

had they applied a good thermal paste the chips would have never gotten hot enough for the solder to crack case closed

60gb do not run fine check out the unofficial ylod victims list most of them are 60gbs they werent made efficient they consume alot more power than the other models combined with the cheap ass poorly applied thermal paste means most likely all 60gb will ylod eventually

send it to gophermods 100$ with 6 months warranty also u'll get it back whitin a week with all your saves still intact

Lmao u have no idea what your talking about. IDK whether he sees the yellow light or not, but even if he doesnt, solder melting doesnt always display the yellow light, just as the RROD doesnt always display for the 360. and solder does not "crack". If you have ever used solder you would know that if at very high temps, solder is liquid, and once cooled turns directly to solid. With the process of melting and cooling that fast, the solder will not "crack" but instead it will move, and drip off. Solder can either connect to other solder or just disconnect the wires. It does require the PS3 to be very hot, but PS3s do get hot enough for this to occur. itsd not as often, but it still can occur.
