Forums - Sony - I've just had my 3rd PS3 die on me

Update they covered it and shipped it out TODAY!  I can expect it on the 9th and then I'll try and sell it and get a slim.  Since I don't need bc since my ps2 works fine still.

slim it down good sir.

I've had 2 PS3's since my first purchase slightly after release. The first one died almost 2 years in, not even taking the best care of it. I think I moved twice in that span. Always had my intercooler on it in those early PS3 days, you'd be stupid not to. Now my 2nd PS3 is running smooth after years still. Oh and my first one was replaced through the best buy warranty I purchased at the time of purchase. You'd be pretty stupid to purchase an expensive system and not buy the in store warranty and hope to only rely on the manufactures warranty, although it is quite good and quite reliable. You must be throwing your PS3's off of rooftops. Or you just fail at life. My guess... All of the above.

That's what I'm thinking I'll be doing but I'm going to be checking out how well those have held up since those haven't even been out a year yet.

120 gig Slim PS3 is the way to go. A few of my friends purchased them recently as upgrades to their current 60 and 80 gig models and they are silky smooth and quiet as can be.

Wow dude are you keeping it in a cupboard with a towel wrapped around it or something? You must be doing it wrong to have it break 3 times. My original fat PS3 didn't have a problem in the 2 1/2 years I had it, and my slim hasn't had an issue since I got it in October.

Almost all 60GB PS3s will die before the generation is out. Get a slim, may as well wait and get a 45nm RSX/Cell version for lower heat/power use and higher reliability.

Tease.

bought my first one used with 6 games for $440 and it lasted by far the longest.  From what I had heard the intercooler was a joke but maybe I'll look into that again.   Only warranties I've been able to get in this case were the warranty after they refurbished a system.  I always hear how they are quite good and reliable yet 3 dead systems in 9 months says otherwise.  I don't throw ps3s have taken them to friends houses but make sure it's well protected as I transport it. Don't let it get banged around, make sure when it's at a friend’s that it's plugged into a surge protector and also ventilated. Was the failing at life comment necessary?

on a coffee table with nothing for 2 feet in 3 directions off it only thing close to it is a container where games and controlers are kept and that's on the side that has no vents (the side you can stand it on)

I have a fat from 2007 , with no problems, its the main console in the house, its gets 2-6 hours of play daily, plus plays all my DVDs and Blurays, My 360 has dies on my 6 times so I am scared to spend money on software, One thing I know on PS3s is those Intercolors for the fans are bad, they disrupt the natural cooling syatem, the PS3 brings air in from the side and pushes it out with the fan in the back, creating a nice flow of air through your PS3, The intercolors blow out air on side and back, what this does is makes no air go through the system and cool it, a lot of people think they are doing good, but they are killing there PS3 quick. Let your PS3 cool its self, keep it out of a cabinet so it can breath. I dont know about 360, the only intercolor that goes on both the side and back I have seen is on the PS3, dont use it, it will kill your PS3. Any questions message me.
