Forums - Sony - Yakuza 3 is the only asian game that has slit-eyes

I play a lot of Japanese games and I like them, even love them because of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Valkyria Chronicles and any other JRPG. But how about the slit-eyes?? As I said I played many Japanese games and didn't notice any slit-eye so far. Even in manga cartoons they don't show their real eyes. Seems they don't like admitting that they have slit-eyes.

Yesterday I saw a trailer of Yakuza 3 and I have to say that the developers made real slit-eyes this time. It's the only Japanese game that does contain slit-eyes. Well I think this is a funny fact. Maybe it says something about the personality of the developers of Yakuza.

ROFL

First, the way you are going about this is quite offensive
Second, you know less about Asian eyes than you think, because they aren't all "slit-eyed" people. Some can be, no doubt, but not all are
Third, it's a cultural trope - In Japan large eyes indicate innocence (like a child, which has larger eyes relative to the rest of their bodies than adults do). No one in Yakuza, at least no one important, is an innocent person, so they would have smaller, "slit"-looking , eyes.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

@Chichirimuyo Calm down dude.. no offense to the Japanese. They are the best game makers of the world and they have made the best system of the world. The most games of my collection is japanese. My no.1 favourite game is MGS. But don't you think I'm right? It has nothing to do with racism or something. This is just the first game made by asians that contains slit-eyes. That's all.

Yeah noticed that too when it came out one year ago

Well even though you say you're not trying to be offensive, the term you use is derogatory and it is offensive to a lot of people. How about writing "Japanese facial features" if you are wanting to have a serious discussion about the cultural implications of Japanese gaming, TV and movie facial animation styles.

If you're trying to be amusing there are ways you can go about using culturally or racially offensive terms in an ironic or disarming fashion. But in this instance it just looks to me like poor taste and poor choice of words.

For starters, VC is a game set in a fictional Europe. It makes sense for the character animations to have stylised European features, rather than stylised Japanese features. I imagine a lot of other games have a similarly non-Japan setting. Or you want to go further and suggest Japanese game developers shouldn't make games based in fictional European settings.

Secondly, you've obviously never played (or heard of?) Kessen. It seems when a game is explicitly set in Japan they use Japanese featured character animation.

I did find it interesting that FFXIII has a token and rather stereotyped (from what I've seen of the game) African American styled character.

I think there might be some interesting cultural reasons why a lot (most? The vast majority?) of Japanese produced animation doesn't have Japanese featured characters. In fact, there could be a cultural anthropology Masters or even PhD thesis in the topic, which would allow you to spend a heck of a lot of time watching Japanese manga/anime and playing a whole lot of Japanese made games all in the name of serious academic research. You might need to slightly alter your writing style though.

It's because the characters in Final Fantasy and Valkyria Chronicles are not Asian. The characters in Yakuza 3 are more or less based off of real people. There's your difference.

You do forget that when you mean Asian it includes Russia the Middle East Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, i don't even think that 50 % of Asians have "slit eyes".
