Well considering Sony is pushing 3D everywhere else (PS3, movies, tv) I think its safe to say that the plan on having 3D in their next handheld. I will be annoying to hear cries of copying nintendo when its announced though.

1995 calls and says hello

Well if your going to bring a failure like that up, why not bring up all the previous motion controlled devices that failed before the wii?

Well, people use the Eyetoy argument all the time for "proof" that Sony didn't copy Nintendo on motion control.

Although I do agree that using failures as an argument ain't the best thing to do.

And I won't say Sony copied Nintendo with 3d if the psp2 will support it. Nintendo didn't invent 3d or were the first to use it in gaming.

The 3D mentioned in the OP is already available on the DSi, the iPhone, and the PSP (but the PSP needs an add-on to do it). But it's not real 3D. It's a trick that uses either the camera or the accelerometer.

The 3DS is an upgrade from the DSi, so it won't use the same 3D. It will be real 3D without the glasses.

So far... that is ALL we know.

The problem is that, you still deny Move is a copy of Wiimote, regardless of Sony themselves admitting to it.
People tend to throw that at you every time because they like seeing you moan and groan in denial.

Okay, just clicked over and read the article at Kotaku. It's a bunch of speculation. It's trying to paint the picture that "I don't know, maybe the new DS doesn't even have anything new, maybe it's just using old iPhone tricks, but hey, I really have no idea, we'll find out at E3."

I'm gonna file this over in the "not new information" part of my brain, and then drink until I forget it.

Kotaku is a bit late with damage control this time around though. They were busy posting 4 pieces on 3DS back to back, LOL.

Yes, fighter, all of this outrage is senseless.

My first reaction was "I hope this is true", "I want more info", "Is this official".

I really don't understand the reaction it is getting, especially if the people decrying it are Sony fans...because the psp2 will do 3d too. I just think Sony didn't think of an accelerometer-based 3d when talking about the psp2, which is very possible and highly likely to be included on the next gen portable.

they have on the cellphones, though they even had a cellphone full focused, on tilt control and rumble.

accelerometers got popular on cellphone like the n95 an some apps use it for games so that implementation isn't something nintendo created either.

I think it will use the same 3D. Displaying real 3D without glasses is really expensive, the reason why its not on the market. Plus, as far as I know, and I have big interest in 3D, no company showed real 3D without glasses in those size of screen. Phillips has worked hard on 3D without glasses, they used mirrors to deflect 2 images at different angles so each eyes receive a different image whatever your position inside 180 degree. I cant see how it could work on a very small device. For real 3D, each eye need to receive a different image, how a small device like this would do this? I really dont know and still no company working on flat LCD panel has ever demonstrate that. Strange to receive a notice about an handheld using a new tech, but never heard of the tech before, seems fishy. I may be wrong, but I think we will never see real glassless 3D (not even in 10 years) on a small device like this. Im a first day buyer if it really work like real stereoscopic 3D tho.

The PSP2 (or whatever it is called) may have a 3D screen or it may not ... Personally, I think the big question is whether the PSP2 will exist in a similar form factor/market space as the PSP did.

What I mean by this is that the PSP was meant to compete directly against Nintendo in the handheld gaming space and the iPod in the portable media player space; and the PSP was lacking of very important characteristics in both market-spaces as a result. I don’t think people will question how the PSP was lacking as a media device in comparison to the iPhone or iPod-Touch; but the fact that the PSP didn’t have the battery life, load times, or kinds of games that the DS had hurt it as a portable gaming device.

In my opinion, in order for the PSP2 to be a successful device Sony has to decide what its primary purpose is, make it excel at that, and then add the other features to it. If their focus is on gaming the PSP2 may have a 3D display, if it is a media device that would be less likely because it doesn’t really have much of a point.
