Forums - Sony Discussion - Xbox 360 Slim be the end for PS3

Price cut on Xbox 360 would mean that it is ending its lifecycle. X360 Arcade cheaper than Wii? No way Ms is gonna do that. Who bought a $99 GameCube?

And it remains to be seen how a Xbox 360 slim with Natal a $50 pricecut and a Halo-launch will work out.

what?

It was shown during sonys press conference at e3 right?

Oh wow you're right!

Anyhoo, It is hard to predict what any of that will do. Halo will sell a bunch of copies, but it's not Halo 4, 50$ cut at an already more than affordable price, slim isn't much of a difference...Natal is the key to all of this. It will be interesting to see what happens, but it's not like that collection of things is a powerhouse, it's just a collection of things.

A price cut is always a powerhouse. The last one is 18 months ago (except the $50 one  olny for the elite and only in NA).

A redesign is always a powerhouse, look at PS2 slim, PSP 3000 (not the Go lol),  DS Lite, PS3 Slim. A redesign 5 years after release would be perfect.

Natal might be a powerhouse.

But you can bet that MS will spend millions of dollars to let everybody know that there is a redesign, a halo, a Fable, a price cut and Natal. If this really happens (I have no doubts to be honest) MS will make the biggest marketing push in this industry.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

they already did this in 2008. Nice try though.

Well basicly having 360 go head 2 head with ps3 at $300 is insane, because ps3 has more money for your buck

but lets say a $200 360 slim vs a $300 ps3 slim is where Sony is gonna sweat because it puts 360 at equal value......

So in the end, the console war between these two will be decided on the games

Equal value?

Not to sound fanboyish, but after $100 for the wifi adapter you are sitting at both consoles being $300 again.

And then PS3 still has Bluetooth, Built-in controller battery (for 360 I think it's like $50 for the battery pack?  Been awhile since I bought mine) and a Blu-ray player..

Casual Gamers dont care about that stuff, all they care about is the console price....So seeing one way cheaper that the other is a huge advantage

besides I never use those things on my ps3 anyways....So its just a waste

you don't use blu-ray!?!?

im talking about the wifi and blue-tooth on ps3...plus since I bought Dark Knight I havent really been watching blu-ray movies as much since the redbox were  I rent my movies still dont carry them, so I just watch hd dvd's on my 360

plus I bought the rechargable battery pack fon 360 for only $20

I mostly just play games on a Gaming Console

whats an HD DVD???         lol

aren't those like dinasaurs???       lmao

ugh it gets funnier every time!!!

excuse me for a minute....

EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH-EL-OH

The price points for 360 is the base cost. They expect the console to be bought for kids or people who don't know any better, or who don't want/need anything more than the arcade. In every situation, 360 is the most expensive console this gen...it's just that when you first buy it, it is the cheapest.

The ~200 dollar area is impulse purchase level for buying consoles. 360 is already in it, PS3 is one foot in it. But that's a different story for a different day.

Will $199 + GT5 + Move bundle from Sony be the end of 360?

no, Sonys end. They would be broke.

OT: Nothing will kill the PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii. Except MS, Sony or Nintendo themselves.

Didn't ppl say the same thing IF sony cuts ps3 price to $299 last year?

Yes they were. And I was called a stupid fanboy because I was the only one who said they could pull it off.

When Xbox 360 beats PS3 in sales (like 2008): It is half as much as a PS3 (200 vs 400)
When PS3 beats Xbox 360 in sales (like today): Even though it is more expensive (200 vs 300 - The elite doesn't exist)
When we are talking about consumers: The Xbox 360 is the most expensive console .

Something doesn't fit.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

This is pure rubbish. I clicked on it to see if it was serious or not. The PS3 will most likely outsell the 360 worldwide this year by a huge margin. Slim 360 or not, it will matter not.

thanks for making a point.

maybe now ppl will finely stop being so arrogant and realize that the 360 is the most expensive console on the market.

its $50!!! extra dollars a year just to do something that the ps3 does for FREE!!!

plus the cost of batteries.

plus the cost for the $100 Wi-Fi add-on that also comes free on ps3.

plus blu-ray and free internet browsing, and blue tooth.

buying a 360 is a waste of money!!!!!!!!!! in my opinion.

and all the exclusives come out on PC so if you want the exclusives just get a pc!!

no change

PSP 3000 http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=PSP&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&start=39600&end=40174

sold 140k more than it normally would have, for one week.

360 elite price cut http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=PSP&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&start=39600&end=40174

doesn't even register!

same graph for the 2008 price drop, went from 105 to 150k then 170k then back down 140.

These two things are incomparable. They are not a major factor. It worked for ps3 because of what everyone's been saying about the sweet spot. It exists. It's there. The ps3 change to slim was not even an issue. It was the 100$ price cut that opeend the gates, so try to understand this from a logical view.

The big question mark is NATAL. Halo will sell units, it will sell consoles and it will be very popular...but it doesn't affect anything when in combination with other things. The most you are going to see from these 3 things, slim, cut, halo is maybe 60-100k extra for a couple of weeks.

Natal is the game changer. Nothing else.
