A price cut is always a powerhouse. The last one is 18 months ago (except the $50 one olny for the elite and only in NA). A redesign is always a powerhouse, look at PS2 slim, PSP 3000 (not the Go lol), DS Lite, PS3 Slim. A redesign 5 years after release would be perfect. Natal might be a powerhouse. But you can bet that MS will spend millions of dollars to let everybody know that there is a redesign, a halo, a Fable, a price cut and Natal. If this really happens (I have no doubts to be honest) MS will make the biggest marketing push in this industry. |
no change
sold 140k more than it normally would have, for one week.
360 elite price cut http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=PSP®1=All&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=X360®3=All&start=39600&end=40174
doesn't even register!
same graph for the 2008 price drop, went from 105 to 150k then 170k then back down 140.
These two things are incomparable. They are not a major factor. It worked for ps3 because of what everyone's been saying about the sweet spot. It exists. It's there. The ps3 change to slim was not even an issue. It was the 100$ price cut that opeend the gates, so try to understand this from a logical view.
The big question mark is NATAL. Halo will sell units, it will sell consoles and it will be very popular...but it doesn't affect anything when in combination with other things. The most you are going to see from these 3 things, slim, cut, halo is maybe 60-100k extra for a couple of weeks.
Natal is the game changer. Nothing else.
