I have been talking about a lot of things, but let me now talk about my situation.
My insurance covers both my wife and I, and I pay $200 a month out of pocket. My employeer pays around 4,000 a year out of theres. I have a high deductible plan with an HSA. My employer each year puts $1000 in my HSA.
So, if my medical bills cost less then 1000 a year, I pay nothing. Also, the way an HSA works, is for many things that are not covered by any insurance, I can still put as much money as I want in my HSA (up to 10k I think), and spend it tax free.
This year, I am going to have about $5,000 worth of dental work done. I can get that done tax free. Next year I am going to reverse a vasectomy I had 11 years ago. That's going to cost $7,000. That's $12,000 worth of tax free operations I want.
So, with the law signed today, my plan becomes illegal. Now, a little bit about my company.
We are a 310 employee, 120 million a year company. Last year we lost 10% in sales. We overcame that without layoffs, because as people quit, we didn't replace them. We reduced out work force by over 10% (we used to be 350 strong). Another thing we did a few years ago, was get rid of our low deductible plan, because it cost to much. The 4,000 an employee my company pays, is lower then they could get insurance for before.
So what I am sure they are going to do, is just drop insurance all together, give us $2,000 in an exchange voucher, and say "good luck".
If they can't get insurance is for 4,000 anymore, how the hell am I for 2,000? My 200 a month will cost me a whole lot more then 200 now, and I will no longer be able to get those things done tax free.
So, to Obama who says "If you like your insurance plan, you get to keep your insurance plan", I say back to him respectfully "Fuck you".
