Forums - General - The health insurance I love, will be illegal starting today...

I have been talking about a lot of things, but let me now talk about my situation.

My insurance covers both my wife and I, and I pay $200 a month out of pocket. My employeer pays around 4,000 a year out of theres. I have a high deductible plan with an HSA. My employer each year puts $1000 in my HSA.

So, if my medical bills cost less then 1000 a year, I pay nothing. Also, the way an HSA works, is for many things that are not covered by any insurance, I can still put as much money as I want in my HSA (up to 10k I think), and spend it tax free.

This year, I am going to have about $5,000 worth of dental work done. I can get that done tax free. Next year I am going to reverse a vasectomy I had 11 years ago. That's going to cost $7,000. That's $12,000 worth of tax free operations I want.

So, with the law signed today, my plan becomes illegal. Now, a little bit about my company.

We are a 310 employee, 120 million a year company. Last year we lost 10% in sales. We overcame that without layoffs, because as people quit, we didn't replace them. We reduced out work force by over 10% (we used to be 350 strong). Another thing we did a few years ago, was get rid of our low deductible plan, because it cost to much. The 4,000 an employee my company pays, is lower then they could get insurance for before.

So what I am sure they are going to do, is just drop insurance all together, give us $2,000 in an exchange voucher, and say "good luck".

If they can't get insurance is for 4,000 anymore, how the hell am I for 2,000? My 200 a month will cost me a whole lot more then 200 now, and I will no longer be able to get those things done tax free.

So, to Obama who says "If you like your insurance plan, you get to keep your insurance plan", I say back to him respectfully "Fuck you".

Reality in dealing with the Govt is often different than political rhetoric.. but you knew that. If only more people took that to heart, we would all be better off.

I just hope the bill gets defeated in the courts, or repealed after mid terms.

On the plus side, premiums will drop by 3000%! W O W ~ ! ! !

Why is your insurance illegal now?

As with anything like this there are going to be winners and losers. I'm still not sure why all your ops are illegal, but then I don't live in the US. In the UK we just pay National Insurance and don't have to pay for operations. Your system sounds way too complicated and for no apparent reason.

Wait, HSA's are illegal now? I haven't heard that part of it. I thought you were going to say that your plan wouldn't cover children with preexisting conditions or had yearly limits.

Where does it state HSA will become illegal? You are worrying about nothing and you will not be adversely impacted in anyway. Private and public health care systems can co-exist like they do in every other developed country in the world.

The USA is behind the world in health care because the current system allows poor and homeless people to be denied health insurance or left to die in the streets. Oh they are poor let them die. Private health insurance is run to profit share holders and to deny people health insurance claims because of some loophole or pre-existing medical conditions.

Dunno why but that sounds very Bioshock/Rapture-like...

Just saying

Really? I have never had that problem, and I cost them quite a bit one year. They didn't deny one charge

I thought this video may be of interest to some people, I saw it earlier on Youtube.

It's from Theamazingatheist, the guy essentially has the personality of Glenn Beck (i.e. a rather *ahem* extreme character), except he stands for much different things.  But this video was somewhat bearable, most likely because his voice has gone.

...

Either way, I'll happily admit that I haven't actually read about this bill for sometime. I knew they had a vote on it yesterday, but apart from that I'm a bit disconnected (on current events in general).
