I like the fact that Wii VS is exploring the realm of taking the player's physical state, but I find it harder to conceive of interactive or fun "relaxation products" that use the VS. But then, Nintendo's imagination >>> my imagination. |
I really think Nintendo could be on to something with this Vitality Sensor, though I think you're right in that it probably won't reach Wii Fit success, because there is much more of a fitness craze in the West, and in particular the US, than a "relaxation" craze. But at the same time, in a society where more and more people are running around like chickens with their heads cut off from one place to another, and stresful things like long hours at work and school, there is definitly the potential for a relaxation game to make its mark.
Those who may want to play a game but also want to relax are pretty much out of luck right now, so a Wii Relax would definitly be venturing into a new market. How big that new market is is anyone's guess. But I have a hunch this thing could be a huge phenomenon if excecuted the right way.
Imagine the possibilites of hypnosis game, metitation game, or stress reliever, or heart monitor to go alongsite Wii Fit. Maybe a game could be made where each time your heart beats, enemies pop up and you have to shoot them. And it could add some interesting twists to core games as well, like the obvious one, a psychological thriller that messes with the game the more stressed you are, or like Myamoto said, a Zelda game that can make enemies more powerful the faster your heart rate is. It really opens the door for all sorts of creative possibilites and fullfill a need that games just don't provide yet.
