Forums - Gaming - To Microsoft and Nintendo fans

Well this question is very easy to answer, but also quite difficult. Subjective with perhaps a dose of bias.

For myself, I have always been an admirer of Nintendos products. Theres just this mystical charm that exudes from Nintendos IP's. Most of the 1st party games seems to be accessible, and most importantly fun. They cover most of the so-called mainstream genres and have created some new genres as well.

Microsoft has come along quite nicely. Although I'm not a FPS fan(get headaches playing too much), they have covered other genres well and have a healthy following. It's not fair to call the Xbox brand a FPS console as all the consoles have a healthy variety of genres, and Microsoft has expanded its genres as well.

Now onto Sony, I think they have steadily gotten better, especially with finally carrying on with some older IP's and creating some excellent franchises. I think they are a very solid second with M/S close by. New IP's are great, but having a continuation of IP's with quality sequels is what creates brand recognition.

But when comparing to Nintendos time honored franchise IP's, its difficult to measure the nostalgic value and charm that goes along when playing a Nintendo Published game.

Still, all 3 cant even begin to compare to my favourite publisher, Blizzard, as this company has put out my favourite games from my most favourite genres that I still cherish today.

Just my 2 cents.

I game.  You game.  We game.

I'm a videogamer, not a fanboy, but have a special place for Nintendo.

Sony has made and published the best games of this generation besides with only a few select PC games competing with them for quality. Nintendo has had very lackluster games this gen, especially in comparison to their other systems. MS has very little first party output. So yeah, I'd say sony pulled ahead this gen in a big way.

I'm no MS or Nintendo fan... But i want to put what i said in leo's thread in here anyway

1 They have the most IP's.
2 They have produced far more quality IP's this gen than either Nintendo or Microsoft Game Studio, possibly combined.
3 They don't rely fully on the same series' they have relied on since they first entered the market.
4 They have (or will have, soon) a game for every genre i can think of.
5 They produce games targetted at every group. From games like EyePet, LBP to God of War, Uncharted.

Most of this is either opinion, or true for nintendo as well

1 This one is true, and it is good that Sony can put out so many games per year.

2 Don't try to present that as fact, it's your opinion. in my opinion, Nintendo have produce far more quality IPs this gen than Sony and MS combined

3 See 2, imo Sony are very much developing sequelitis at the moment (killzone 3 coming soon for example), Nintendo is better than most companies for bringing out new IP, and actually changing things between releases of IP. ie no 2 zelda games are the same, no 2 Cod games are different.

4 So does Nintendo. infact, just on the Wii there is something for every genre from Nintendo

5 So do Nintendo, from games like Wii sports to Metroid, Fire Emblem. Infact, Sony's main problem is that they don't produce any bridge titles. They have lots aimed at 16-20 year old boys, and they have lots aimed at the very casual and kiddy markets. They don't have much aimed at females or males above 20

Oh, Sony owns ND now? I didn't realize that. Good for them, they're a better game dev than even Insomniac, IMO.

Though I'm not crazy about Insomniac. I think some of their games lack that certain "something" found in Nintendo games. The characters are great, the gameplay is good, there's just... something missing. I can't quite put my finger on it.

You're about 9 years late on that one.  :P

Hah! I thought Sony only owned a small portion of ND, not a controlling stake.

I can only speak for Nintendo, and basically I think Nintendo's top franchises are better than Sony's or Microsoft's top franchises.

However, Sony are the most consistent performer in terms of quality AND quantity. Sony's titles, just like Nintendo's are unique, they have that 'Sony' feel to them and I think there is a charm to Sony, just as there is a charm to Nintendo. I fail to see the charm in Microsoft's consoles or software and I guess that's why I don't have an XBOX 360.

I'm not trying to bash Microsoft or anything, that's just how I can distinguish the three without going metacritic this, third party that.

They are above average, but still nowhere near the quality of Nintendo's games. Not to sound fanboyish, but that's just the way I feel.

my girlfriend who just spend the night here has a Wii, I tried asking for her opinion but she had no idea what first party titles, nintendo published titles OR The games the company made by themselves...

Sony > Microsoft > Nintendo.

For games I will keep:

Microsoft = Nintendo > Sony

I just find the types of games Sony releases are interesting to play once and experience but I find the idea of playing them more than once not to my taste.

Microsoft tends to produce games which have local coop, more solid gameplay even if less spectacular so I find they can be replayed more easily and Nintendo are the same. The value I find in the Nintendo/Microsoft games exceed that of Sony games even though I play my PS3 more than my Xbox 360 I still own more Xbox 360 titles.

I am a PC gamer first and foremost and I shouldn't forget that whilst I play many games on consoles like a buffet I tend to buy to own on the PC. My HD 5870 means I can be extremely critical of the graphics of a title and often I come into the Sony titles with a critical mindset due to the graphical hype they often recieve so I then tear them apart mentally and any good work they may have done passes over my head.

Squillam, I love ya, but if you own a gaming PC, how could you choose MS over Sony? Are Halo and Gears that powerful? After that point, what games are attractive? I admit that I share your sentiment about Sony games being less "playable over a long run", but when you own a PC, the 360 and its "playable over the longrun" selection starts to look pretty sparse.

Depends on what game we're talking about. A lot of Sony's games don't appeal to me in the slightest (Heavy Rain, Killzone), but on the other hand Uncharted looks like it might be on par with the best gaming experiences I've had.

So it depends on the game. They all range from "looks crappy" to "looks impressive", but the only one I'd say, to me, stands above impressive is Uncharted.
