Sony > Nintendo > Microsoft
as far as 1st party titles goes (this gen)

EDIT: I take that back. Just looked up some games from this gen again and I came to a better conclusion:

Sony >> Microsoft > Nintendo

(this gen)

Does Microsoft have any other first party game this year besides Halo:reach?

Oh lemme guess

Halo reach > Zelda:wii+Metroid other M+ Super Mario galaxy 2+Sin&Punishment2

Crackdown 2, Alan Wake & Fable 3

I don't like Zelda that much; Metroid Other M doesn't look anywhere as good as the old ones; Sin & Punishment 2 looks good, but not on the same level; Only Super Mario Galaxy 2 has my attention.

I also said "this gen" and not "this year"....

That's purely subjective. I'd put Zelda and metroid on a way higher level then all those games(also SMG2 because it's nothing new really, how can this game even get your attention? Just buy the first one)

And this thread is about first part exclusives for this year. And we don't even know what Nintendo has planned for us after June because they usually announce those games at E3.

Ps: Crackdown 2 isn't made by Microsoft, just published. I guess you can still consider it first party exclusive, but I don't.

Well I agree that it is purely subjective at least for this year, since all 3 seem to have a very good line-up.

This thread is NOT only about this year. Who said it is ?

Microsoft will announce all Natal launch games on E3 and I'm sure Sony will announce some things too.

Wikipedia says Sin & Punishment 2 is developed by Treasure and as far as I can see they're not owned be Nintendo either.

Why are you not counting first party ip's? such as Resistance, Socom, Little Big Planet, InFamous, Ratchet & Clank, Heavy Rain and MotorStorm

Because they weren't 1st party developed.  The thread's about each 1st party (ie: internal and invested studios) in terms of development, not each 1st party in terms of whatever they publish.

those arn't titles Sony just publishes in-exchange for exclusive to PS3, they are Sony IP's, All previous Socom games were made by Zipper but since they were going to make MAG Sony hired a developer (Slant Six) to make Socom Confrontation for the PS3

are you saying Metroid: Other M isn't first party then?

Treasure is a very small developer, they had help from Nintendo with s&p.

Well, Nintendo usually announces games right when they're about to release(few months in advance or 1 year at max). Sony usually announces their games way before they're released. I know MS and Sony will announce some great things at E3, but how many of those will come out in 2010?

OP is talking about which line up is the best THIS YEAR, so it only seems normal to talk about this year.

Ps: I haven't played the first crackdown, but I've been told it wasn't AAA quality(Metacritic seems to suggest the same thing, but then again, using metacritic as an argument is just plain stupid). So why do you think so highly of the second one?

Other M is co-developed by Nintendo SPD.  If it were only developed by Team Ninja, I wouldn't include it in a list of 1st party developed games, no.

Again, I'm not saying stuff like Crackdown, Rachet & Clank or Sin & Punishment aren't 1st party games... but they're not 1st party developed games.  And honestly, if I included them, Sony would see the least proportional gains in terms of number actually...

Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Polyphony Digital and Team Ico are four of the greatest development studios of all time.

They all create AAA quality titles. Consistently.

And they're all under Sony's roof. BOOM.

As I already said MS will announce their Natal line-up for 2010. Expect at least 1 first party title for it (Rare game probably).

I still don't see where Gilgamesh said anything about this year or even this gen in the OP.

As a singleplayer game Crackdown isn't as good as other sandbox games (Saints Row 2, InFamous, GTA IV), but it is certainly the best co-op sanbox game available.

It's just pure action with an overpowered special agent and Crackdown 2 doubles the amount of co-op buddies from 2 to 4.

I would say that personally Sony have a high flash:substance ratio. Their games are really impressive, once. So for a hardcore gamer whos buying and keeping over 5-10 games per year then I can understand the love Sony gets, but I guess more picky people who have to share their time with multiple platforms / have different values -> I hate cinematic style games as a genre, I enjoy playing them once but never more than that because I have a tendency to pick them apart mentally as I play and it ruins my suspension of disbelief. Uncharted 2 for example lost me at the first scene because he wasn't wearing gloves and he had a hole in his stomach.

I'll play something like Mass Effect more than once because I love the control I have or even the perception of control. I love playing games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Crysis as well as games like Jagged Alliance 2, Civilization IV and I'll keep coming back to them even though I've spent hundreds of hours playing each title. For me with your average Sony title once I know how the story ends a significant proportion of the value of the game is lost which is why I said they make better rentals so I can play them once/twice then send them packing.

I hear that! I thought I was the only one that couldn't get into the beginning of Uncharted 2. For me though, the clincher was when he was climbing up the train, and large rocks were falling down towards him, and he somehow didn't die. That with being in the cold, without gloves, and with a hole in his stomach. It was over the top for me, and essentially ruined the entire game experience. It essentially reminded me of a cheesy, bad action movie, that can be funny to watch, but it's not really an engaging experience.

I'm not big into the cinematic style games either, if I want that sort of experience, I watch a good movie. As a cinematic story-telling form of entertainment, games just aren't there yet to me. Then again, for pure story, it's all about books to me. Comic books can be okay too, they just narrow down the imagination a bit, but they can relay a story much faster than most books.

I'm not sure, but I wonder if gaming background has something to do with it? Maybe gamers who started with PS1 or PS2 have gotten more into that sort of experience, whereas I started with Nintendo, Atari and PC games. And, I've owned almost every major console since (skipped over some of the handhelds though).

Action games make terrible action movies! Nathan Drake got shot about 100 times prior to that moment without a scratch. Suddenly that one bullet actually sticks? Uncharted 2 is great justification for hating cinematic games and the awards it got for story just makes me cringe at the level of maturity of the games industry. It was about the worst action movie I have ever seen in terms of suspension of disbelief. I think I had an easier time with Vetical limit.

I started gaming with the PC and I was doing games like Wolf3D, Dune 2, Lode Runner etc since 1989 when I was 4. I have a lot of experience with gaming. I think I missed this whole games as cinema trend until the current generation. They simply didn't make sense to me and I got a lot more enjoyment out of a $2000 PC than I ever did from a $399 console.
