Sony games have a unique feel. I can't describe it. There are only a few Sony franchises that I LOVE. Nintendo and surprisingly, Microsoft have franchises that are nearer to my heart for whatever reason. I don't know. I guess I'll say this: When Sony is good, they're very good. When they're mediocre, Sony fans still love them. And that's O.K.

This is pretty much exactly how it is.  I mean everyone has their great games, everyone has some meh stuff as well, but man oh man, if that meh game is made by Sony there's gonna be people that love it, any word that it could just be average can start a fight, and you're right it is perfectly fine, just it's crazy to me to see any fanbase defend a game from what it is.

To be honest, this gen I really feel Sony has made far better titles than they did last gen, they're really starting to return to the Sony I enjoyed during the PS1 era, but it took necessity for it to happen.  But in the end while they've tried to compete on just about every genre, with every developer/publisher, but still they haven't REALLY matched the quality of a Halo 3/CoD4 for FPS, or the Mario platformers for 2D/3D platformers.

It's much like Sony is the jack of all trades and makes the great games that keep you busy/buying games, but they really lack that genre they just dominate at, and it's the best game of its genre.  Don't take me the wrong way here, since some of my top games this gen are Sony made, but they have never really shown to be a dominating force in any one genre, like many people don't even want to compete with Nintendo with platformers and that says volumes, though I would argue Sony has a good hold on the monkey catching sims (I'm really wanting news on Ape Escape 4)

Just my 2 cents.

Sony's starting to have better games for the PS3, the xbox as usual but need to expand its userbase
Nintendo is doing pretty well, regardless of having better games or not because it has one of the best selling franchises ever

Hmm... why do I prefer Nintendo's games to Sony's? Easy- Nintendo makes games that I can pick up and go, and their other games are the ones that really have a better way of invoking me. I personally find the Fire Emblem series better than anything Sony USA has to offer. The problem I have with Sony (and Microsoft for that matter) is that they've fallen into the 'only M games are good' trap. In my eyes, a good M-rated game is hard to find. A few M-rated games are good and deserve it (Persona 4, Drakkengard), but most, including many of Sony's offerings, are merely trying to push the lines of sex and violence, with nothing actually mature. Though the biggest violator is GTA, that's for another time.

Yes, Sony has games in pretty much every genre. But that's also not necessarily a plus. There's the saying "Jack of all trades, master of none." Many of Sony's games just don't show the polish that Nintendo titles show. Sure, LBP has some good ideas. But it just doesn't hold people as well as NSMBWii; that's what Nintendo's polish does. I'd say that there's probably a bit more polish in Sony Japan, but Sony USA seems afraid to bring some over. Sony's RPGs, for instance, are being done by other companies- take Atlus with Demon's Souls. While trying new things isn't a bad idea, doing it too much will spread your resources thin, reducing the total polish you can do. This will make the overall games good, but not great. And with the number of games out there, I want a great game. For me, Sony isn't able to deliver on this. Yes, Nintendo has some misses also, but I'm more apt to trust something with the Nintendo name.

I can't comment on the quality of Sony's titles this generations, but in terms of appeal, their line-up hasn't had many titles I seriously considered buying a PS3 for. LittleBigPlanet and Last Guardian are games I would definitely pick up and almost definitely love if I had a PS3, but as for everything else, I can't say.

I don't mean to be insulting there, it's just my nature to buy a few exclusives for a number of platforms. Being a student, my money barely covers getting what I want on 360, Wii and DS. Over the last few years and in the near future, they've just had titles that appeal more to me. I am hoping to pick up a PS3 at some point. I think Last Guardian could finally be the game that swings it for me. Who knows, after that I could get more into Sony titles.

You have to laugh at some responses in this thread, it asks for our opinions, but apparently we're not allowed to base it on opinion... Classic.

Anyway, I look over at my collection and I have 4 first party PS3 games and those are all I've been interested in so far. Meanwhile, I've got 10 first party Wii games, although to be fair I've had the Wii far longer than the PS3.

Make of that what you will.

VGChartz

high budget, quality, fun games made especially for my demographic. What more could i ask for?

I'm not sure why people complain about Sony's M-rated games. I'm not sure if it's the perception of the games, that they are not strictly for everyone, as opposed to the actual rating that people mean, but Sony have many games that are rated T or lower. Uncharted 1 & 2, inFamous, LittleBigPlanet, EyePet, SingStar, Ratchet & Clank, White Knight Chronicles, Motorstorm, Gran Turismo, WipEout HD and the list goes on.

As a gamer who don't usually like complex games, complex storylines and "mature" themes, Sony has little to offer me.

It's threads like this that makes me come back here day  after day .

I have said this before, We need to enjoy this generation even more because to me, it has been the most balanced and have produced some of the most amazing experiences since I started gaming. Even the bad games are good.
