Forums - Gaming - To Microsoft and Nintendo fans

I grew up and my taste in gaming has changed. I still love some of nintendo's old IPs, such as Punch Out, Fire Emblem, Zelda, and Metroid. But i've grown tired of mario games. Mario kart and Mario strikers charged as more fun than both NSMB and SMG if you ask me.

I believe Sony has gained grown on Nintendo, and are currently surpassing them in Quality and Quantity: Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo, God of War, Heavy Rain, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Infamoous. Nintendo has slacked and needs to release better games to compete with the competition.

For microsoft, i can't complain. They've been in the industry less than 10 years, and they're making huge progress. Halo, Fable, Gears, Forza, are established franchises.

I just find the types of games Sony releases are interesting to play once and experience but I find the idea of playing them more than once not to my taste.

Microsoft tends to produce games which have local coop, more solid gameplay even if less spectacular so I find they can be replayed more easily and Nintendo are the same. The value I find in the Nintendo/Microsoft games exceed that of Sony games even though I play my PS3 more than my Xbox 360 I still own more Xbox 360 titles.

I am a PC gamer first and foremost and I shouldn't forget that whilst I play many games on consoles like a buffet I tend to buy to own on the PC. My HD 5870 means I can be extremely critical of the graphics of a title and often I come into the Sony titles with a critical mindset due to the graphical hype they often recieve so I then tear them apart mentally and any good work they may have done passes over my head.

Squillam, I love ya, but if you own a gaming PC, how could you choose MS over Sony? Are Halo and Gears that powerful? After that point, what games are attractive? I admit that I share your sentiment about Sony games being less "playable over a long run", but when you own a PC, the 360 and its "playable over the longrun" selection starts to look pretty sparse.

It's because of his inability to find the replay-button on Sony-owned games.

For the last 14 years I have been a PC and Playstation gamer. I play my RTS and Western RPGs on PC and the rest on the PS3.

Prior to owning the PS1, my first console was a Sega megadrive (Genesis) so I never got attached to Nintendo when I was younger as I think a lot of people here did. I guess I'm a fan of Sony/Microsoft/Sega, and I play microsoft games on the PC mainly although I did own the original Xbox and I play Sony and Sega games on the PS3. Oh and one last thing, I got into Jrpg's on the PS1 so I guess that's another reason why I love Sony. (Their consoles always having superb 3rd party support.)

Having said all that I think Nintendo does a great job of catering to their fans, I just never became a fan myself.

Well I have to say im very impressed with Sony games this gen.

It's not like like past gens where this lazy company just let 3rd parties do it all. The PS3 hase some AWESOME Sony games this gen. Now most of these games, 80% of them don't do it for me, but unlike some of the fanboys on this site and around the interwebz just because it dosen't apeal to me dosen't mean I don't know what a well made game is.

But with that said there still no Nintendo.

I wish I could get some actual discussing done here, but I've barely played any Microsoft/Nintendo games this generation.

Still, I really like what Sony does, and their drive to allow for creative and risky games to be created is something I really appreciate. Heavy Rain and Flower are amazing games for me, and it's unlikely they would have been what they are today without Sony. In fact, more than half the games I own for my PS3 are from Sony, and I enjoyed all of them (to varying degrees of course).

@OP

I have PS1 PS2 and PSP. so i can mostly compare with these.

for Nintendo, I have to say that I was brought up with these, so I do have a particular fondness for them, for their humor, for their way of thinking, for their gameplay descisions. I would rate most Mario, zelda, metroid, punch out and a few other N game above any other.

Now for the other games, I haven't really been able to enjoy much first part sony games, what made the strengh of the system in the past was 3rd party support. I still do have a fondness for GoW, and grand tourismo, but although these games are the best in their segment, there are very worthy altrenatives, something that is not so for N games. The only game that particularly interests me in the PS3 catalog would be Uncharted, the other I just see as either uninteresting or just slightly above alternatives.

For MS games, well I do like halo... but I play on PC and FPS are just meh to me on consoles... My attraction for the green brand was mostly multiplats and the price. I do like the exclusives like ME, fable and LO.
The only game in the MS exclusivity that I crave is gears. (strangely I have no problem playing a slow TPS with a controler)

So in all, i'd put MS and sony about on par for quality, but I still believe that the minds at Nintendo are the only ones that know how to make fun games, not just by luck but by planning for it.

You should rephrase that, it basically discredits your entire post. What I hear you saying is that Nintendo is the only company capable of creating fun games on purpose, and games like LittleBigPlanet, PixelJunk Monsters, SingStar and Buzz are only fun by accident.

All the generations combined i would have to say nintendo. This generation sony has clearly taken the lead. A quick look at metacritic supports this:P

This

After playing most Sony games once, I have no need/desire to play it again. They don't offer the same replayability as Nintendo games or even MS games, and none of them even compare to the PC games I have.

The way I see it sometimes, Nintendo is for the social gamer, the gamer who likes to have friends over and play games. Xbox is similar, but it's also for the online gamer, who likes to go online and listen to 12 year olds cry about how much they suck/rock. PS3 is for the single-player gamer, the one who enjoys that movie-like experience in the game, and can have a lot of fun playing alone.

I, for one, don't care for the single-player experience much these days, I don't have time for it really. There are still games I HAVE to play (Uncharted, Mass Effect, etc.), but I always prefer the MP experience. Even then, I can replay Mass Effect over and over, but I fell asleep trying to replay Uncharted 1 (and I like 1 MUCH more than 2, but I've talked about that before). There's just a "feel" to Sony's games, that I can't really describe, that doesn't lend themselves to be replayed, and also usually makes me feel disinterested. This obviously isn't the case for everyone, but they don't have as much value to me. Great rentals, but I'm glad I've only bought a few PS3 games.

Obviously, I'm talking console exclusives, not 1st party. It seems unfair to talk 1st party since it's aim seems to be to keep MS out of the loop. But in terms of 1st party, easily Nintendo. SSBB, NSMBW, just those two games alone are more fun than any other PS3/Xbox 360 game I've played, and this is coming from an RPG-lover. Guess it's part of me turning more into a social gamer and not playing single-player games as much.

I just read this entire thread and I am so impressed by the level of civility displayed by the VGChartz forum members. Anywhere else on the internet (including pbskids.com and nickjr.com) and this discussion would have turned into a name calling-console bashing troll fest. This is the reason I keep coming back here!
