I grew up and my taste in gaming has changed. I still love some of nintendo's old IPs, such as Punch Out, Fire Emblem, Zelda, and Metroid. But i've grown tired of mario games. Mario kart and Mario strikers charged as more fun than both NSMB and SMG if you ask me.
I believe Sony has gained grown on Nintendo, and are currently surpassing them in Quality and Quantity: Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo, God of War, Heavy Rain, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Infamoous. Nintendo has slacked and needs to release better games to compete with the competition.
For microsoft, i can't complain. They've been in the industry less than 10 years, and they're making huge progress. Halo, Fable, Gears, Forza, are established franchises.
