Forums - Nintendo - I wish to acknowledge the Wiimote as the inspiration for Natal.

I don't want to really beat around the bush here. I just want to come out and say it. If it wasn't for Nintendo the Natal interface would not exist and they would not be within about 6 months of releasing their interface. I may as well say that ahead of time anything truely inspirational that comes from the Natal interface this generation owes its existance almost entirely due to the fantastic work Nintendo has done in paving the way in this field even if implemented by hands outside of Nintendo.

There you have it, 100% acknowledgement by me that I know and everyone else ought to know where the true source of inspiration has come from in this generation of consoles. I would rather have this out in the open than spend my time denying Nintendo and pissing every reasonable person off and I hope that from now on we can talk about the merits of the interface without this issue hanging over us.

Thank you for your time,

Good day to you.

This may stop people going ape shit over Natal when they show it at E3.

Keep your fingers crossed!

They have many good reasons to be angry which is why I want to address the issues ahead of time.

Hopefully it works. I don't think i can bare seeing the forums go like that again.

I know Squil, it just struck me that politically this could be a very good move for Microsoft, insisting as loud as they can that they owe everything they've done to Nintendo's trailblazing, because it naturally allies them with Nintendo and puts Sony in a more vulnerable position (their peripheral being more similar to the wiimote, which makes it harder to acknowledge the obvious debt they own to Nintendo without being accused of outright copying Nintendo's technology.)

I don't think many of us will be angry. It should be fun.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

"almost entirely due to the fantastic work Nintendo has done in paving the way in this field even if implemented by hands outside of Nintendo"

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Its also about respect, I wanted to accord the proper respect which Nintendo has been denied the whole generation. Its about honour in a way...
