Forums - Sales - VGChartz versus Nexgenwars

I just went on the Wikipedia 7th gen console page. After noticing that it mentioned both VGchartz and Nexgenwars, saying they are both unreliable sources, I went on nexgenwars as to compare its number to this sites. At that time it had the 360 listed as 32 million sales, the PS3 on 25 million sales and the Wii on 53 million sales. Comparing these two sites, which is generally taken as the most accurate and why? Im curious

I don't know when was the last time Nexgenwars was updated. VGChartz is the "most" reliable as it is updated weekly. However, there is still question about its accuracy. But lets face it, VG is far more open than NPD, though if I was going to put money on either, it will be NPD, simply because they are reputable. If the industry accepts VG as a legitimate source for sales data, then things will be different.

Concerning sales though, are the sales figures provided by Sony sales to retailers or actual sales of a console.

EDIT: I will say however, VG is THE best place to go to for international sales of games and consoles. The trend is shifting, more and more people are accepting VG as a reputable and legitimate source for sales. Partly because there is an open discussion on the site.

2011 Predictions

Wii: 17m (100 million total)

360: 13m (63 million total)

PS3: 15m (61 million total)

What wiki entry did you read?

Second, nextgenwars just has a counter that adds numbers as time passes. VGChartz is actually a team of analysts with real retail data, etc. Read the About Us to find out more: http://www.vgchartz.com/welcome.php

I thought NexGen site was closed down?

Edit - Seems the sites back up, I like the idea of a counter, but that doesn't really work what with fast moving trends (new games, shortages ect)

Nexgenwars is still running on simple linear scales set several years back isnt it?

Does the fact that Nexgenwars is a dead site with 5 people visiting at any given time, and the last article they published was written in December 2007 give you an idea?

I suppose it does, didnt really look at the site in that much detail, but I thought there was something wrong with their numbers

Vgchartz is better but i think the community is going the way of nextgenwars.
