Forums - Sony Discussion - God of War III, $33 Million Day 1 Sales

I tink the threat is just about hoe much money the game has done overall not how much Sony or developers or retailer have made. But he forgot to add all the ultimate editions!

Who ever made this article knows nothing about how companies make money off games. Developers might get $20 to $30 from that $60 game.

You should re-read the article, nowhere in there do they state that santa monica made 33 mil, he said that god of war 3 made 33 mil, which obviously it did as god of war 3 costs 60 dollars a pop which means that the game is the one essentially making the money.  It does not say where the money goes and who gets what share of it.

lol...some crazy profit ideas in this thread. Especially Gearbox...damn dude, you think EB games works for free?

Accodring to the chart below which was published on many sites sony gets 34 dollars profit per game sold. So Sony gets 18.7 million dollars for god of war...first day.

One thing people don't under stand is that Developers get paid while making the game, and only when the game is finished can someone say how much it cost, in GOW's case it cost about 44 million.

Now the people who fund the development are the publishers, and it is them who have to make a return on their investment, not developers.

I find the figure on retailer margin a bit too high, from what I've heard back when I was working at EB games, the margin on games is little, which is why EB games ( a.k.a Game stop in America), sell pre-owned as that's where the profit is, otherwise if the margin was so high for retailers then game only retailers would be able to exist with out the need to sell pre-owned games.

The last games only retailer here in Australia that never did pre-owened was games wizard and they went under and were bought out by game, which like most sell pre-owned.

I would personally take those numbers with a grain of salt.

I think he didnt' say sony was getting all the money.  It's just showing the total.  It's like when they said how much cod mw2 made it's not all going to ativision.  Or the 2 billion+ for Avatar the money doesn't all go into one place but it is all money spent on the product.  In this case God of War 3.

Incredible sales, finaly! a game get the sales what it deserves.

This is blatantly wrong, HD consoles only lose money.

Plus they are causing the industry to die a slow death.

Only companies dying make crap games.

All these companies going bankrupt helps the sales of good games. Its win for the consumer!

This game probably has to sell 2 million copies at full price to see a profit considering it had a $44 million budget. Might need to sell more if that doesn't include advertising.

Anyhow, it should be very profitable game in due time.
