Forums - Nintendo - Do Wiis scratch discs?

I am not exaggerating at all when I tell you this: I once stood by while an EB Games employee told a woman that she needed to buy a cooler for her son's PS2 or it would BURN DOWN HER HOUSE.

I'm not kidding.

Some (but not all) of the people who work in retail know less about the product they're selling than the customer. I know. I sold shoes before and people would ask advice about the most random of things. Our main concern (which may be EB's main concern) was selling the product, selling add ons (socks, shoe laces, insoles, and sneaker cleaner). I'm sure they focus on selling used games, subscriptions/Edge Cards, accessories, and warranties.

It's just mind boggling how terrible Gamestop and other game employees are.

It's odd enough that a lot of them will actually tell you they're in the gaming industry but you would think being in the gaming industry they would at least know a small amount about it. They flat out lie and just tell you false things to sell whatever. What's really odd is they do all this yet see no commission so I really don't know why they do it.

Lol, no it doesn't happen.

If you try to shake the console while its reading a disc maybe you can manage to get a disc totally scratched..

I've knocked my Wii over countless times while the disc was spinning, and I'm yet to scratch a disc.

However, the disc drive now makes funny noises and I've now moved the Wii on its side to hopefully not completely break the thing. At the time I didn't realize the clear plastic circle actually attached to the base so this wouldn't happen

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

really they only scratch the disks when they get moved around while their on (like if you yanked the gamecube controller cord too hard, and knocked the wii over).

i'd be careful not to do that, but other then that, don't be worried.

thats how brawl broke for me. But you'll be fine if you don't let little kids play with a gamecube controller while the Wii is on a Table 3 ft in the air. And it still works sometimes.

so don't worry about it

I can vouch for that, same thing happens to me. So I wouldn't worry about that unless the console smashed totally with the disc inside!

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

I never shake my console, I don't even move it. I don't use GC controllers on my Wii. And believe me, I'm very careful at putting the disks... And my games are scratched... Those are minor scratches, but I had problems a couple of times because of them, like the music of RE4 repeating, and I had an error message a couple of times that wouldn't go, and wouldn't let my turn of the console... (I had t unplug it to turn it off...). The scratches are circular and in the most external part of the disk... Don't know if it's my console or Wiis in general :(

All my Wii games are still in perfect condition so no not at all.

I suppose if you lay a disc on the floor and physically pick up the Wii console and use one of its corners to rub against the disc, it MAY scratch it.......but I still sorta doubt it.

The only time I ever scratched a Wii disc was when I tried to use an eyeglass wiping cloth rather than my cotton t-shirt.
