alex, Ithink this is a Galxy/Toys R US/ Black Friday effect.

Girl Gamer, I expect the Wii to have a very good January. Sadly, a lot of people will go empty handed this holiday season, so they might have some luck in January. But how about February? I can see sales getting a boost from Brawl. But then what about March?

 Mario Kart? =D

Awesome Wii numbers ;o Hopefuly they will remain above 200k untill the holiday season ends

Well, it could be delayed. But I hope it doesn't!

I am not sure about next year. One of the reasons Wii Fit was delayed in America was so that it would not be released so close to SMG. I am not sure if Nintendo of America wants it released next to Endless Ocean which comes out in Jan. I don't think NOA wants to release Mario Kart near SSBB, either.

Maybe it will look like this:
Jan 08- Endless Ocean, NiGHTS
Feb 08- SSBB, No More Heros
Mar 08- Wii Fit
Apr 08-
May 08- Mario Kart
Jun 08- Mario Party Online, WiiWare
Jul 08- Beijing 2008 which uses the balance board?
Aug 08- Wii Music and with a Remote if Big Brain Academy bundle from Australia doesn't come to America?
Sep 08- Animal Crossing?
Oct 08- Big Brain Academy Wii Wii Remote bundle or Brain Training Wii game released, Kirby?
Nov 08- GH4, Rock Band2, Nintendo game that used the Zapper, Winter Sports game that uses the balance board?
Dec 08- Wii Spore?

5 months of big Nintendo games. Endless Ocean may not be huge but it is a major step towards encouraging causal games and is budget priced. Mario Party Online may not come out until Fall 08.

currently playing: Desktop Tower Defense (PC), Puzzle Quest (DS), Trauma Center New Blood (Wii), Guitar Hero III (Wii), Ghost Squad (Wii), Actraiser (SNES), Donkey Kong County (SNES), The Legend of Zelda (NES), Kirby's Adventure (NES)

will play next: Paper Mario (N64), Golden Axe II (Sega), NiGHTS (Wii)

I don't see Disaster or Mario Baseball on that list, both of which are guaranteed 08 releases...

Doesn't the black friday effect tend to happen on black friday?  I mean... wouldn't most people not shop right before the day where everything gets put on sale for one day only... really cheap.

I wouldn't really know though, cause i've never actually shopped on a black friday.  No need for the hassle.

I lol at anyone surprised by these numbers. Nintendo has been planning this all year long.

They WILL have 18-20m sold by the end of the year - meaning another 4-6m sold in the next 6 weeks. That's an average of 650k-700k / week.

You had better believe it. Next week could edge 500k(!) in the US. Yes, they could EASILY ship double the number they had this week.

Its Black Friday - potentially the biggest shopping day of the year in the US.
Reggie was just on CNBC and said Nintendo expects 17.5 million shipped and sold by March 08.

Now, if you are saying 18-20m by end of year and maybe 20-22m by March 08, that should make for lots of more money to be made off Nintendo stock!

that's 17.5 million this financial year, in other words, on top of the 5.8 million that they shipped last year, for a total of 23.3 million.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

To meet there numbers they are going to be shipping 600,000 Wiis each week through the end of the year. It is going to get nuts.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

A quarter million in a week before black friday, that's amazing. In the US I see the Wii exclipsing a million in the month of November, maybe two million in December if they can ship that many. The DS is also going to be insane with those two new bundles coming out. I think Nintendo going to have to up their sales estimates once again pretty soon.
