Forums - Nintendo - The official Wii Vitality Sensor thread

Not much has been said about the Wii vitality sensor of yet as we've only seen it at E3 and only a few details after about when it will be released, but since we will know more about it at E3, I will post all of the incoming info on here.

I am just REALLY curious to see how this could be used in a game. I mean I know Wii Relax will probably be its flagship game but how else could it possibly be incorporated into a game? I guess a psychological thriller also comes to mind, but there's gotta be more than that. I wish I was creative enough to think of some other possibilities :/

It's probably going to be used in some weird, fantastic way, that none of us would've ever expected. I mean, this IS Nintendo we're talking about after all. And Iwata mentioned last year, during some interview, that the Vitality Sensor does much more than simply read your heartrate. I'm really curious.

As long as it stays this bulky and blocks the nunchuck socket in the wiimote, I don't think it will be of much use for most games.

I think they might use the vitality sensor/Wii Relax as the counterpart to Wii Fit. At first you work out, then you actively relax. If that works...

a Tetris like game where the more stressed you are the faster the blocks fall ; )

stealing an idea from the late 90's

the way iwata talks about it it makes it seem like the VS can sense your mental state(i.e. nervous focus etc) or maybe it can pickup on your emotions. that would be a neat way to further interact with games

It should be interesting to see what emerges from this.
This could be very interesting ... or really strange ... or both.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Well there's a few things I can think of that aren't just casual games as well. I could think of quite a few for those.

The hardcore gamers would be a lot harder to create for. Some things that come to mind are, steadiness in FPS where as if you aren't relaxed the scope shakes on you.
A horror game in which your heartbeat represents the noise for something to hear you (if you have seen Van Helsing and remember the part where Dracula talks about his heartbeat)

In american football in can see this used for keeping calm in blitzed situations... although not likely

I see the vitality sensor as being used as an optional add-on for most games, like how the wii-balance board is now.
