You know this site is ran by Sony fans when they choose "Not even close", to them i say

"Who has a 5 million lead? Aww to soon??" then i LOL

well to be fair the question is Sony Vs MS and NOT PS3 vs X360.Sony had almost 40% of revenue in gaming last week whereas MS had only 13 %.

to you I say

"who has 3 platforms on the market???" :P

True, but the brand power is what the OP was talking about.

Xbox and GFWL vs PS3 and ?? (PSP is just about to die and so is the PS2)

Xbox brand is equal with the Playstation brand.

PS2 alone doubled the sales of Xbox and Xbox 360 together

and that is history my friend. welcome to 2010.

So? Its still a fact that proves that proves that PlayStation brand is 5X stronger. How many Xbox consoles sold over 100 millon? Or even 50 million? Hell, not even a Nintendo console sold over 100 million (notice i said console, not handheld)

Apple 2 used to be the greatest computer. Your point? The past just doesn't matter.

PS3 is getting raped by the Xbox 360 in the US. That happens today.

PS3 lost soooooo much market share in Europe this generation while the Xbox 360 will double the sales of the original Xbox next month.

The Xbox brand saw a massive growth this gen, the Playstation brand decreased big time.

Apple doesnt have to do anything with this. And once again, this isnt about PS3 vs. 360 its about PlayStation vs. Xbox and the clear fact is that Xbox is not as powerfull as PlayStation. Once the Xbox 360 sells over 100 million or at least 50 million, come back to this argument. Because, until than i wont even bother agruing anymore

What is World Wide?

You're joking right. Ya know, everywhere... all around the world, where the US accounts for 35-40% of the gaming market and the rest of the world the remaining 60-65%.

What exactly is the rest of the world?

What countries involve the other 60-65%

Micro$oft are getting there only because $ony shot themselves in the foot with that ridiculous price when the PS3 launched.

In terms of gaming the most significant would be the countries of mainland Europe (as a whole Europe is almost equal to the US as a console market, about the same if you include PC gaming) where Playstation is still synonymous with core gaming. Then there is Japan and South Korea which are huge markets for their populations. Australia is a bit like the UK in gaming preferences. Then there is all of Asia where gaming is less significant but at the sametime growing rapidly, especially in China and in MMO style games. Finally, South America, but I know very little as to the size of the gaming market there.

What's the console gaming market like in South Korea if you know? Do they mostly still play SC over there?

No... but Microsoft is growing while Sony is diminishing.

Next gen going by this pace they'll be almost equal... except in japan for obvious reasons.

ok, not reading the whole thread, just throwing out my thoughts.

Microsoft hasn't matched Sony yet, but they are getting there and could be there in the next generation. While Microsoft is currently beating Sony in Unit sale (x360 vs PS3 only) Sony still has a few things in its favor. Overall the PS3 & X360 are relatively matched in terms of system influence, but Sony has portable gaming and much larger 1st party software support. Both of which aren't being matched by Microsoft.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I think it's fairly big but the rapid growth MMOs and internet based gaming (and lots of Starcraft, lol) may have surpassed it now. They have the fastest net connections... anywhere I think. This is all second-hand info from friends though so take it with a pinch of salt.

You mean at todays losing pace they will magically become equal next gen, they are losing now how is that a pace to become equall ?

MS will never be even in Europe, shooters wont get them Europe.  Forza has failed to make a dent in GT and they lack 1st party to make more Euro oriented games.  They have already lost their launch lead in Europe.  All signs point that Europe is beyond their capability.  All they have is the English speaking markets.

Well you obviously don't mean RIGHT NOW because all the Sony consoles combined sold more this week ww than the all the MS ones combined.

You must mean 2010. Oh wait, all Sony consoles combined sold more in 2010 too.

So you must mean this gen. But if you take the sales of all Sony consoles combined since the generation began and compare them to all MS consoles.... well you get the same result!

What exactly do you mean? Did you mean to ask "Are there more 360s on the market right now than there are PS3s?" Because if that's what you mean, don't give us this stupid "brand recognition" bullshit. Just come out and say it, J man...

Btw, I know MS only has one console on the market. I was making a point.
