Wait, how can you improve shipments in a shortage?

LoL. Was wondering the same thing.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I get kowens point, "we will ship more for big launchs", well where are these coming from? stockpiled? if so why didn't they just put them out asap .. they would have sold either way.

The fact is, either VGC is wrong, or Sony is exaggerating or Sony have literally shipped no consoles in America this year

It had shipped 33.5m at the start of they year, and still hasn't got there

There was a response last year as to why PSP figures are so off, I really can't remember though, something to do with warehouse storage or something?!

I don't understand any of it I'll be honest .. PS3 to me does seem a little undertracked.

Sony Upping PS3 Supply For God Of War 3 Launch

Shipments are flowing in now.

Sony is making sure there will be plenty of PlayStation 3 consoles available in North America during one of its biggest quarters of the year.

John Koller, SCEA's Director of Hardware and Marketing, told IGN the company is readying PS3 supply for important game releases, including tomorrow's God of War III launch.

"We have shipments flowing in now," said Koller. "As you know we are in tight supply, and the reason for that is because demand is outstripping even what we thought it would after the price drop."

"We have a lot of big launches coming up that we need to make sure we're in really strong supply for, and we will be for when God of War III launches," he added. "We'll be in a tight situation for a little while, but for big launches, and particularly for the titles coming in the back half of the year, we'll be fine."

Recent PS3 supply constraints have put a damper on sales since this past holiday. February's NPD revealed Sony sold 360,000 consoles, good for third place. With a full month of Heavy Rain sales, and the releases of Final Fantasy XIII and God of War, March NPD data should prove positive for Sony if there is ample supply.

sony will win march NPD in the console catagory

not a very good start for the first week of March.

1st week feb

wii 170k 360 93k

2nd

wii 131k 360 101k

3rd

wii 160 360 109

4th

wii 133 360 99

as u can see by vgc numbers u would think wii would of won npd feb but it didnt just b/c vgcs 1st  march week has ps3 at 86k in americas doesnt mean that's what it did

there will be alot of vgc adjustments to all the consoles in the next 3-6 weeks qoute me on that

NPD is out and ironically Sony is actually last in the console category.

March 2010

DS       700,800

Wii       557,500

X360    338,400

PS3      313,900

PSP     119,900

PS2     118,300

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Failed...

I laughed at this thread!

Sales did increase with supply instead of spiking right at the release of GoW III, but supply was still insufficient in most of the U.S.  Demand was insufficient to beat the Wii, though.  ;)  I think PS3 HW will continue to sell well in coming weeks,  i.e. showing robust YoY increases, to the extent Sony is getting enough units to the Americas.
